I say go Sealed if you want SQ. I had ported before and it was too "ghetto" for me

Yeah ported can sound really good. There are two things that made me go away from ported myself.

First, a ported box is usually bigger than a sealed box. For example the 12w3v2 requires 1.25 cubic ft airspace for sealed and 1.75 cubic ft. for ported. I had really big boxes before when I had 2 12's in my old car and I don't like losing all of the trunk space.

Second, I heard that ported boxes are harder to design correctly. Eld and Bass Mechanic use to always comment about how ported can sound very good, but you need someone with experience in order to design it properly. Since I don't have these skillz I went sealed

As DJ mentioned, ported is more efficient. You will get more sound from a ported box than you will a sealed box though. So if you don't mind losing the trunk space and if you or someone you know understands how to correctly build/design a ported box, it's a good route to go.

ported can sound wonderful, if it is done properly. It is tricky to make one urself correctly, especially if u are a at making boxes.

Down the road i wouldnt mind experimenting w/both boxes and see which one i like best. If the ported box isn't too deep then i think i wouldnt mind having one. we'll see though

I have a 10in W7 in the JL sealed box(the one with the 3 silver slanted grills in front).

I've always had sealed boxes. I don't like the sound of the ported.

Just go to Best Buy and listen to a sub in a ported box(the one with "ported" holes in the box, and listen to a sub in a sealed enclosure( no holes) and see which sound you like better.

Your W3 won't pound the neighborhood down but it will be wayyy better than stock and make you smile everytime you turn it up.

Too bad you had to pay retail for everything... $750 right? some weeks you find what u need on ebay, some weeks ya don't. Good luck with the set up, it's gonna be kick ass. Post pics when done.

I love the Grille on the W7, i wish they made something like that for the W6v2. I have heard the W7 in the showroom in a sealed enclosure like you have and I must say it sounds very clean and detailed. I just got a 10W6v2 today from a friend, and I must say, it sounds REALLY nice and smooth. I just can't imagine what a 12W6v2 or a 12W7 would sound like, because the 10 was definately more than i anticipated. Eitherway it sounds nice and i am very happy with it. I don't even have the boost/gain on full and it knocks more than the 12W3v2 i have. Very nice sound w/out being overbearing.

I like sealed better than ported personally, but I can't say that this is a real test. Does ANY sub at Best Buy sound worth a darn?

hey guys! i got my stuff!
i ended up getting the JL 500/1 amp because there was no compatibility with the 250/1 amp and a bass knob. and i had to have the bass knob. i got the 12W3V2.. i had them turn down the amount of power that goes to the sub so it wont over power it and then maybe if i want i can get another sub later or the w7. I have it running at 8 ohms to help with the power too.
all and all, the amp, sub, wires, bass knob, sub grill, custom box and installation i paid like $1057.00 or something right around there..
so i think that was pretty good price..
i will post pics soon!!! i love it!
it hits good and i can still hear my highs and mids. exactly what i was looking for

i think this was the price break down:

amp: $550
sub: $220
bass knob: $35
installation: $80
box: $65
tax: the remainder....
they gave me all the wires and the grill for free
so i think i got out well

Elduderino: no, no sub at best buy is worth a damn when ur talking about getting a W7. BUT, to hear the difference between a sealed and ported box, I would say yes, you can definitely notice a difference in box sound by going and listening to any old sub in both boxes at best buy. Theres a clear difference.

lol...Itz all good dude. That was the point of me posting the pic. I think that's a great spot too, cuz it's easy to reach while driving and you can get a replacement panel for it, if you ever end up switching the amp or taking it out

Quick refresher....She got a week ban per the Sping Ban Games because she is a drama queen. She had her roomate come onto the boards to defend here. Both roomate and Steph32 got permabanned.
