JL10W7 or JL8W7 Prowedge????

Alright,

Quick question. Should I get a JL10W7 Prowedge, or a JL8W7 Prowedge for my 2004 TSX? Its running off the 5th channel of my Alpine amp. My birthsheet said 389x1 at 4 ohms, however, everybody knows that the W7's are 3 ohms. Do you think the 8W7 will still hit really hard? I had a JL 10W7 Prowedge in my old explorer, and it sounded good, but didn't hit really hard. I want to be able to feel it in my chest a lot!

Thanks for your input.

Oh, and the reason I am going with JL again is because I can get a deal on them (getting them at cost)

Thanks

If you had a 10w7 that didn't hit hard you probably didn't have enough power going to it (ie at least a 500/1). Go with the 8w7 simply because you don't have enough power for the 10w7. Check JL's website there is a chart showing recommended wattage for their woofers.

Yeah, their site says 500 rms for the 10W7 Prowedge. Their 8W7 says 300 rms. The 8W7 Prowedge fits my amplifier specs better, but if I ever wanted to get a new amp down the road, such as a JL 500/1, then I would end up having to get a new sub as well.

I just want to make sure the 8W7 will be able to hit hard down to 20 Hz.

Man, I wish Definitive Technology made car subwoofers. The supercube that I have for my home theater puts even the 10 and 12 W7's to shame. Of course it has 1,600 watts rms going to it, but its in a box smaller than the JL's.

Look, you can't screw it up, tey're both fine choices, but the easy way is, if your amp is already in, any decent shop should take the sub box out in the parking lot with you and hook it up with a short piece of wire and you can HEAR it in your car. I suspect that you would be underpowering your 10 a bit, but I don't know if you will like the 8" sound (I would, but you, I dunno.)

See, I can't do that.

I am getting this sub at cost ($280 for the 8W7 Prowedge, and $320 for the 10W7) through my roommate who's father runs a high end home theater store. There are two other World Wide Stereo's around me and one has a car audio section, and he is just ordering it through them, and having it delivered to the home theater store that he runs.

Because of this, I will not be able to play with them first, and I have to tell him today which one I want to order.

I think I am just going to go with the 10W7 Prowedge.

you wont go wrong...but I would go with the 10W7 because 350 watts is a decent amount for it in a ported box. But also Im sure the 8W7 would hit good in a quality box, my dad has 1 8W3V2 in his truck under the back seat with 350 watts to it - it hits amazingly hard and clean for what it is.

Just to clarify things, the Prowedge is a sealed enclosure, not ported. The ported boxes from JL are called H.O (for high output).

It would be a 10W7 in a sealed enclosure designed by JL. Here is a link to it just incase you don't know what I am talking about.

I have that exact box, with the 10w7 and 500.1 set up.
JL website specs say you should atleast have the 500.1 amp for the 10.
Like other have already said, if you have an amp that will power the 8w7... go with that. It will hit hard like a W7 should.
If you think it's not gonna be enough bump for you, you gotto pay to play. Get a 10w7 at cost, and a 500.1 amp at cost and sell your existing amp on ebay!

I know that is why I said in a ported box... I should have refered to the H.O. box. I wouldnt put 350 watts to a 10W7 in a sealed box. I would go with more like 600 or 700. But in the H.O. box, you could get away with it.

So if you want to keep the amp, get the 10 or 8 in a ported box and you will be very happy. With the sealed box and that power, you wont get the good "bump" that you are looking for

I see your point. I am not selling my current amp since I just got it installed, and the front four channels are powering my MB Quart QSD components.

I don't want the ported box because it takes up too much room compared to the sealed enclosure.

I know it will be underpowered, but I am going to go with the JL 10W7 Prowedge. Maybe three years down the line I will get a different amp.

The price of getting a new amp is not the problem. The trunk of a TSX is not that big, and there aren't a lot of places to mount another amp.

I can get a 500/1 for $260 and the 10W7 Prowedge for $320. The whole thing would only cost me $580, which is less than my front components!

My next question is that my roommate is getting a 500/1 and wants to run it to a Infinity Perfect 10.1 or a Koda 10, which I am not sure if they will be able to handle it. I believe the Koda 10 in a large sealed box of around 1.0 cu ft will sound great! Hope it doesn't kill the subs.
