depends wat you're looking for. the 12w7 will be louder than the 10w7 with the same amp (more cone area and excursion)

as far as SQ, the 10w7 should be "quicker", but i doubt anyone will hear the difference

I have a 10W7 powered by a 500/1 and its more than I could ever want....infact the gain on my amp is not even half of the way up!

If i was you i would hear what both of the subs sound like and see if the 10" is enough then get it but, look and see how much more money you would be paying if you went up to the 12" I have heard the (actually I think you mean a 13" JL W7) and it sounded damn good. But it is your money and you are the one that will be hearing it most of the time. But BIGGER IS BETTER!

my gain isn't even as high as Nicky's, and I can't see any reason to push it more (unless I want to expedite my hearing loss).

You should take a listen to as many sub as you can, and decide from there. I personally feel that for the price of a W7, you could do a lot better, no matter what type of music you listen too, but that's because I've listened to it and it just doesn't do it for me. Tons of people love the W7, but that doesn't mean that you will, or that you won't. Find a shop or two, take a listen to some subs, and decide what you like best. I don't think there are any better subs on the market right now (for the money), than the Boston Pro 12, and the ID Max 12. The ID max will have a better transient response, and the Boston sounds great with minimal power, and has an incredible quickness. Good luck.

if u want the least possible distortion out of all the subs mentioned, get the W7. if u don't want to spend that much, look into something else.
