Check out my newest "creation".

The SQ of this system is really astounding! I'm still on the fence about a woofer change though....

Beautiful work.

"I wanted to keep the tweeter as close to the mid as possible to maintain the proper imaging."

Finally someone that understands the concept of imaging. Everyone wants to mount them in the sail panels or way up on the door. Oy vey.

I think it's that most people don't want to cut their door panels! It can be a very expensive mistake if not done properly! Sail panels are cheap. Then again, you may be right. The further from the mid you mount the tweeter, the quicker your overall imaging shifts. I guess you have to hear the difference to believe/understand it regardless of how many sites tell you this fact.

I've done it both ways (previous car had tweets mounted on upper part of door panel) and this way is by far the best. They sound like incredible coaxials.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in my work. This system is the best sounding I've ever owned/installed. I have to give major kudos to JBL for their new line of amplifiers and components. The JBL comps put the ID chameleons to shame. The IDs in the rear running off the stock HU amplifier sound good enough for their job as rear fill speakers.

Here is a quick list of the JBL stuff I've incorporated into my system. I did NOT pay these prices but the info is good:

Front comps: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/JBLC608GTI
Front comps amp: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/JBLPX6002
Sub amp: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/JBLBPX11001

I had never considered JBL to be a top contender until now. This stuff rocks!!

Go to www.ikesound.com to get the amps at a much more reasonable rate.

I agree. I would never have considered JBL to be SQ equipment. Sounds like you found a winner. Now keep it down so the cops don't bust ya.

Everything looks great. The new JBL stuff looks mean. The amps just look like bricks. Are they are big as they look in pics?

I have to say though, that mounting the tweeters in the sail panels is not a bad plan for imaging. I had the ID Chameleons in 2 vehicles mounted as coaxials and never thought the imaging was that good. It was way too low. I have my Diamond M661 tweets mounted on angle mounts on the sail panels and the sound blows away the imaging of the Chameleons. The music seems like it comes from beyond the front windshield, instead of down around the steering wheel. Angling the tweeters can make a huge difference.

Yes, the amps are huge. I had no choice but to come up with a way to mount them on top of each other if I wanted to keep any semblance of trunk space. I added the fans because I was afraid the heat from the sub amp wouldn't dissipate quickly enough since it had another amp sitting right on top of it. The sub amp puts out over 1000W @ 4ohm mono. I figured that two $5 fans were worth protecting a $550 amp.
