iPod interface using Sirius tuner pass-thru should work, right???

Hi All,

I'm usually around the TL forum, but had a question about installing the new Kenwood iPod interface (KCA-iP500) to an existing Kenwood setup.

I currently have the KDC-4022HU and Sirius tuner (KTC-SR901) in a Mini Cooper. The Sirius tuner has a pass-thru for adding a CD changer.... So installing the iPod interface should just plug into the pass-thru and be controlled by the HU, correct?

I have called Kenwood and their tech support told me, "Yeah, it should work, but if it doesn't, then you'll need our multi-switch" Thanks, Captain Obvious.... I was actually looking for a definitive answer.
I tried Crutchfield and they told me that I would definitely need the switch..... But couldn't give me an answer as to why it's needed.
Are the protocols similar so that the HU will not be able to distinguish between Sirius and something plugged into the CD Changer port?

I can't see why this won't work, but I was hoping someone here might have experience with utilizing the pass-thru feature and can verify for me that this will in fact work. I really don't want to take apart the Mini, only to find out that I need an additional part.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Forgot to include this...

The reason I'm so insistent on using the iPod interface is because it allows full control of the iPod from the Kenwood HU.

I know the Pioneer system works the way your describing. I'm not sure about Kenwood, but I would think they would operate in teh same way.

Do you have a link to the Kenwood switch they are saying you'll need?

Tsx, here is a link to the switch they (Kenwood tech support and Crutchfield) are saying I might need...

Kenwood KCA-S210A

Based on the description for the switch online, it looks like you'd only need one of these if you're adding more than 1 source.

Thanks for your help guys .... Just a quick update....

Tested the iPod interface I was asking about before pulling things apart.... Works like a charm!!! Plugged it into 1st gen. Sirius tuner pass-thru and HU saw it immediately. A few too many keystrokes to get to playlists, genres, artists, etc. via HU, but other than that, it will provide many hours of happy motoring.
