iPhone 3G and the PXAMG status
iPhone 3G and the PXAMG status
To pass the message along, I sent an email to Peripheral Electronics asking what the ETA was for the iPhone 3G charging update. This was his response:
"Thank you for the inquiry. The PXAMG cable that plugs from the PXAMG into your Ipod is what is going to be revised to charge the 3G iPhone. There will be a replacement cable available for sale in roughly 2 months. It could be quite a bit later before the cable is included with the PXAMG, as all of the stores will have to sell through the stock that they already have in their warehouses. The PXAMG will currently perform all other functions and the cable will be an easy replacement when it is available."
Then I got a second email later than day stating:
"Just found out that this may not be the case as we were updated with information that they may need to change the interface as well. I wanted to email and let you know so that you did not rush out and buy one. It is still in the design phase, so this may change and I have no ETA."
These emails came from Rick, a Technical Adviser for Peripheral Electronics
That being said, sounds like anyone with the iPhone 3G who wishes to have charging capabilities, should hold off.

This goes for ALL new Apple iPods from 3G iPhone, New Touch, 4G Nano, Revised "Classic" and onward. Apple has fundamentally changed the pin layouts in the 20 pin connector for future reliability, but they have rendered an entire world of aftermarket ipod accessories (well beyond just the car) largely meaningless.
I would expect most manufacturers to get serious about putting out revised models shortly, now that the new iPods are out which will have the same behavior that us early iPhone 3G customers got to experience first.
So, a word of warning to all: at the moment accessories don't charge new iPods/iPhones.

The charging was changed from Firewire to USB. I have a new 4G nano and it works normally with the Isimple/Peripheral interface except for the charging.
I have found 2 dock adapters that claim to fix the problem. They are about $30.

These are just coming into availability and so I have not been able to try them to verify that they work. They are a dock connector pass-thru which converts the Firewire to USB charging.

When using my PXMAG with the iPhone 3G the display above the head unit (where the temp and clock are displayed) says XM LOADING all the time.
any suggestions on how to get the artist and song title to display instead?
