instrument cluster

i'm planning to take it off to replace some bulbs..it's on a 2002 model...the milage on there is displayed electronically so I guess it is stored in memory somewhere...is the memory is ON THE CLUSTER or stored elsewhere?

I'm concern that taking it off (disconnecting the power for a long time) will erase/kill the milage on it...will it? Does the memory for milage is on the cluster?

thats a really good question.... although I have seen 2nd gen gauge clusters for sale, and they say they have a specific mileage on them, so i'm guessing its stored in the cluster, and it stays even when its disconnected.
