Instructions about door speaker install

i got a few PM's so here is a guide to door speaker install.

It's a drawing.

The unusual door opening with
square holes in the door, Side view of the 1/2" spacer
is shown in place. Spacer drilled and countersunk

Center spacer over door opening. Drill and countersink spacer to
the square holes in the door. Attach spacer with flat head screws
and speed nuts behind the door.
Dyanamat gasket between spacer and door of course.

Position speaker and mark locations to drill into spacer, as shown about
10:00, 2:00, 4:00, 8:00 positions.

Drill two upper holes into spacer but not into door metal.

Drill two lower holes all the way through door metal.

Attach speaker to top holes with 3/4" screws. Make sure
these screws do not bottom into door and seperate spacer from door,
if so you will have to drill through door metal.

Attach bottom speaker holes with 1-1/4" screws.
The bottom screws go through the door metal.
The top holes will be near the countersunk spacer screws but will clear.

Use rubber gasket between speaker and spacer.

I think i used #8 screws, select drill that is slightly smaller.
#6 screws will also work. Lowes has good selection of stainless steel
screws and the speed nuts. Best Buy has the Honda speaker wire plug and
harness.

Don't forget the diameter. I would make it a 6-3/4" outside diameter and inside diameter depends on the speaker.

You don't want the spacer and speaker to add up to more than 1-1/8 thickness or it will hit the door. You don't want it to be less, ewither, IMO, because then you don't have the door-panel baffle that the door designer built in... so I add a 1/8" or 1/4" Masonite thickness to get it to 1" total, and then I put more foam tape on top of that.

For gasketing, get adhesive foam weatherstripping by the roll at HD or Lowe's.
