Installing subwoofer ?

Anyone knows how to install a sub-woofer (tube with built-in amplifier) onto a TL with stock radio/speakers etc? Is it a lot of hassle?

it will take a couple hour and I'm speaking for the CL. I think you need to ask the TL guys.

I thought all (or most) of the wiring are very much the same for both cars since our cars are virtually the same.. A lot of parts are being used in the both cars like many in the engine bays etc.

Well, like SilverKnight said, you should check over on the TL board to see if there are any known difficulties, but here's a generic overview of installing a tube sub with built-in amp:

The tube probably has both high level and low level inputs. The high level you can run parallel from your rear speakers. The low level you need to find the stock amp and run from that input OR go right from your headunit.

You also need to run a positive feed from your battery to the location where you will be installing the tube. I would recommend at least 10 gauge fine strand wire. Also, leave yourself excess wire, you can always snip it when you're done. The ground wire you can secure to a bare metal location in your trunk. There has been some discussion on this board about where to ground your amp that you might want to search for. My school of thought has always been to ground close to your amp and away from signal wires to prevent noise. The remote turn on wire can be done to your existing factory amp's wire, or directly to the head unit.

That should be about it. The positive wire from your battery to the tube amp you might want to put an inline fuse (highly recommended). And before you go drilling through your firewall, there should be some holes in it already that are plugged with little rubber plugs which can be removed. Always separate your signal wires from your power wires. Good luck

1st of all... your TL already has a sub in it... why add another?? Just replace it with an aftermarket 10" free-air sub and an aftermarket amp.

If you do add the tube or the amp for the 10" free-air, you MUST put a fuse in the power lead. Otherwise when that wire shorts out and sets the car on fire, insurance wont cover it cause investegators will find the cause and find there was no fuse.
