Installing some subs......couple questions?????
My friend is giving me 2 Brand Spankin New 10" Boston Acoustic DVC subs and an old Urban 500 amp (never heard of Urban myself) Does anyone know if this amp is good? My friend said he used it to bump 2 15's and it worked fine.
I have an enclosed box that holds 2 10's in my closet, should I use this box?
What is the SQ difference between enclosed and open?
Should I just take the plexiglass off so it's open?
I will tap into the wires by the stock amp, does anyone know what wires are what?
I also have 2 Polk DX-6's in the fronts...I have an old RF 160a at home...Should I wire this amp to my fronts? And if yes should I bypass the EQ?

Well,
First thing I would do is get the mfg parameters for the subs to determine the optimum box size. Does your existing box match up? If not, there are ways to modify it so it'll be close. It also must be perfectly sealed/air tight unless ported. If you put good subs in the wrong box, they'll sound like crap.
A sealed box will give the best SQ 98% of the time. But again, it depends on the T/S parameters of your subs and other things.
You have to tap into the twisted pair inside the brown sheathed cable for a mono input. The orange wire can be used as a remote on. Do a search for specifics, its been discussed before.
As far as amping your fronts, depends on how much more you want to do. Just size the main power cable from the battery to handle both amps. And yes, I would bypass the EQ.

I'm not sure what model the speakers are. I'm picking them up tonight. How do I find out what size box I need? I assume I need the model # first. The box is ported.
I don't know much about boxes but what is the difference between an enclosed box and an open box. Everytime I see an enclosed box the speakers are mounted backwards so that when you look thru the plexiglass you see the magnets and the face is pointed towards the inside of the box ( the side the ports are on.)
Do I want to mount the speakers backwards or forwards?
How do I bypass the EQ?
