Installing Factory Navi in 20 TL-S?

Is it possible to install factory Navi in 2002 TL-S? At the time of purchase my TL-S, no TL-S with Navi were available.

I assume that the price is around $2000. Can dealer do this? Or, is it going to be troublesome somehow?

Thanx for your info.

Happy motoring!

it's gonna be an aftermarket nav you're after then.

it's not like it's 'impossible' to get the OEM Nav..but you'll need to get a different dash, new a/c controls...wiring plus Nav is gonna cost your waaay over $2k.

if you want NAV...get the TL w/ NAV...but if you plan to play around with the Aftermarket stuff...then it's another story...

Correct. OEM NAV is so complex and involved throughout the car that it is considered a completely different model car (VIN numbers are different for nav and non-nav models). Retrofitting the OEM system would cost big $$$$, plus the cost of the unit itself which is probably more than the original $2000 option price. Just guessing, but I bet having an Acura dealer do the work, with parts and labor, would be in excess of $4000.

There are several aftermarket navi units that are quite good. Alpine, who makes the units for Acura, has a very good unit but the cost, with monitor, is around $2000.

I would have to agree with everyone else i too checked in to this when i first bought my tl....the 1st reponse i got was it was impossible...so i emailed acura corp to get the real deal..they email me back that the obvious parts alone (new dash, screen , dvd navi a/c controls etc..)would be $3600... and they are not sure that this would be everything that would be needed...so i dedided to go the aftermarket route...but personally i didnt want the dvd navi i only wanted the tv in the dash... so i am in the process of putting a pioneer motorized 7" lcd in my dash....seriously i would go with an aftermarket unit it will be alot cheaper in the long run...unless you are one of those people that like the stock look to everything.....

Smile Question for Pianoman41

Appreciate for the replies.

Question to Pianoman. You mentioned Alpine makes the unit for Acura. Is it specially for TL? How is the fit & finish? The reason I was thinking factory system was that I wanted a factory look.

If you have a model # for the alpine, can I have it?

Thanx for the replies once again.

Alpine is the company Acura subbed out to produce the navi units for them. So although the OEM navi has no manufacturer markings on it, it is made by Alpine. I'm 99.99% positive you *cannot* buy the Acura unit through Alpine--they only make it to sell direct to Acura for install as OEM equipment, and ours is specifically designed for Acura, but it fits in the CL, TL, MDX (and probably the soon-to-be-redesigned RL).

Now Alpine does make aftermarket DVD-based navi systems that are very similar in appearance and operation to the OEM unit. Obviously, if you get one with a display it's not going to be flush fit in the dash like the OEM one. But functionally (with the exception of the touch screen) I've been told it's very close to the OEM units. I don't have a model number but a local electronics store (Tweeter, Etc) said with the display the cost would be about $2000 installed. The other downside to the aftermarket navi is the yearly upgrade DVDs cost around $300 (as opposed to the $150 that Acura charges).
