an alarm is one thing that unless you are trained or really really good at electronics you should not install yourself.

an alarm is only as good as the install so I would highly recommend finding a local shop to install it for you or it would be useless.

i couldnt even imgaine the hassle you would have to go through, im sure the 400 dollars would be well worth the aggervation or any permanent damage you might accidently cause by doing it yourself

Just out of curiosity where did you get yours done at? I'm from Toronto and I got it done at Audio Heaven. I got the remote starter & Alarm (Compustar Pro P2W9000FMR) for 450 with labor.

400 is cheap compared to what I got quoted for... I got told $550!

Anyways I would say just find another shop to do it cheaper for you... Ive only heard horror stories of people trying to do it themselves >.<

I say the only difficult part in installing an alarm is getting to the wire you need to get to, whether it be physically accessing it or figuring if it is in fact the wire you need.

When I installed mine on my old car, it wasn't that bad....just required disassembling a lot of stuff....which I wasn't too familiar with. But once I was sure I had the wire I needed in my hand, just splice and move on.

Grab a Voltmeter, an Ohmmeter, and wiring diagrams and that's really all you need. When I did mine, took me about 8 hours though it was my first time. Had no issues with it at all for the 5/5 years I had the car (if you exclude messing with the shock sensor's sensitivity because it would 'false alarm' everytime some loud ass muffler car or truck passed, and everyone hates a car with an alarm that won't shutup).

Time consuming does not always equate to "difficult". Give it a try.

Now, I may not know "cars" yet but I still try to learn to do as much as I can on my own.

so true.
man i install. we would charge 160 labour 15 shop supply 80 for the bypass module and 65 for keyless entry and trunk. some of those prices you got are just ludacris, especially for this car. I deal with compustar and have the EXACT same unit in my 99 3.2tl. It's a 3 hour job at the very most and you HAVE to go into the drivers door for the door locks and factory alarm wires. compared to say a late model chrysler its a piece of cake. but i still dont recommend you try it yourself if you have no electrical experience.
