Install Pics Up and Running
Install Pics Up and Running
I finally did it. Got some pics of the early phase of my install posted to a website I threw together. Everything you see is not finished.
The kick panels and the amp board have to be carpeted and the aluminum trim panel for the head unit will be powder coated. I will keep these pics up for a while and then update when things change. Now that I finally got cable internet, it is pretty easy to update these things.
Any and All feedback is welcome. I am not a professional and do not claim to be. I do this because I enjoy it.
Let me know what you think and any suggestions or questions.
Here is the link. Pics on 2 different pages.

also are u gonna get a cap, and just to be safe do screw that board in.
you know how all your wires go in to the side of the amps and they are visable. Well I say this one install in a BMW 7 series with the same amps, I belive they mounted the board and the amps on top and they used somekind of spacers and another board and it looked like the amps where flush mounted.
do u have speakers in the doors to?

Thanks guys for the comments.
bozz....I do not have any pics during the construction. Just got my camera at Christmas. What I am going to do is, take some pics when I take the kicks out to carpet. You will then be able to see what they look like without the speakers in them. As for the soundstage, it sound dead center. The only problem, maybe too center. It does not seem to be very wide. Need to fiddle with the tweeters once they are carpeted. Again, I will say the Alpine Type R's are good but, my Image Dynamic Chameleons in my MDX blow them away.
dnd....I never liked the all wood face. Just was not to my taste. If the powder coating looks bad, I will try something else. That is most of the fun for me. Trying till I find what I like. My amps will look pretty much like yours when I am done. That is the look I want and should get. As for the cap, we will see. Depends on if I feel like I need it. I will not buy one because the experts say I need one. It has to be proven to me. The amp board will be screwed down after the carpet is done. I just noted it fit so well, it did not have to be. The weight of the amps will not allow it to come out. Lastly, I do have the stock speakers in the doors but, they are off. My Alpine has a setting that allows me to alternate between the RCA output or internal amp output. I can switch between the two if I like. I will see about adding some Alpine Type R coaxials later.
Sorry this was so long. I hope that answered everything.

hey i have a couple of question... i was just curious why you did not use the q logic kicks instead of building your own... also why not keep the little tray in there to take up some space above the headunit... but all in all i think you did a good job...
hey dnd who did your faceplate... i know the plastic/wood lookalike stuff came from selectproducts.com but who cut it out... cuz they did a damn good job... i had a hell of a time doing mine....

shawhite....I did not use q logics because I was afraid the Alpine's may not fit. Techinically, the q logics only hold a 6 1/4 component set. The Alpine's are massive and I just did not want to spend $150+ on something that may not even work. I did not even think about keeping the storage tray. I may look into that. I also thought about installing a couple of remote gain knobs for the amps above the radio as well.
systek...Thanks. I will do just that.

New idea. Tell me what you guys think.
Cutting the Alpine logo above the head unit. I am talking the official logo. Would be cut in using CNC machine. [/QUOTE
GO for it. I think it would look pretty nice.
