impedance/wiring question..
my question is about how i should wire my new sub (orion xtrpro102) its a 2 ohm DVC and my current amp is 2/4/8 ohm load capable..if i wire in paralell im lowering it to 1ohm...and my amp isnt one ohm stable(according to specs) so i should wire in series to bump it up to 4ohm right?
am i correct in thinkin i should wire in series?...til i can get a class d mono thats 1 ohm stable..

yes 1 ohm is sex on many amps i run at 1 ohm. soon i am gonna run at .5 ohm. But if u try that u better have some dayum good electrical to do it. 1 and lower needs more power from ur electrical system so u might wanna upgrade the alt

also my friend wants me to test my amp at 1 ohm.. what are the dangers in doing that...i know if it doesnt work out ill pop a fuse at least...anything else?
honda emlem? what u mean. and thanx
well it can just cut off it can blow a fuse or it can let the magic smoke out. i've had all happen before doing that. most likely it will just cut off
ok one more question.. the specs on the sub are 500rms 1000peak
my friends amp specs are as follows:
# Max Output Power @ 2 Ohms 2000W
# Power output @ 2 Ohms 325W x 2CH
# Power output @ 4 Ohms 210W x 2CH
# Power otput Bridged 650W x 1CH
and my current amp
# Maximum Power : 1000 Watts
# RMS Power Output @ 4 Ohms : 100 Watts x 2-Channels
# RMS Power Output @ 2 Ohms : 150 Watts x 2-Channels
# Bridged Power : 300 Watts x 1-Channel
obviously ill be running at 4 ohm on both as neither are 1 ohm stable...
the first amp seems the obvious choice but i just want re assurance... or am i completely wrong?

I would be very careful recommending someone to run an amp over the power handling of the sub. Clipped or not, if you exceed the power handling of the sub then it is going to fry/break. I'd instead recommend either matching or being a little under and then of course make sure the gains are set correctly. That way if you hear distortion (clipping) then you know you could be causing damage and need to turn it down. Running a higher power amp could cause damage without any audible distortion produced. That situation should only be used by someone who really knows what they are doing.
yes thats why i said set the gains so you know how much power the amp is pushing out. if your sub handles 600 rms and your amp pushes 1000 rms well put the dmm on it and with the formula and set it where it is pushing out 600 rms. Then you are not exceeding the power capability. ya gotta read mang gotta read

"Setting the gains properly" is way too generalized for the suggestion you made. It is much more complex than that. In many cases the power handling of the sub is dictated by the enclosure which can be much lower than the rating on the sub. Also, rated impedance is just an estimation, not the actual lowest resistance the amp will see from the sub. That will vary with subs of the same rating due to differing voice coil designs. So it is still possible to cause damage even with using a multi meter if you don't know what you are doing.
Like I said, you have to be careful when making recommendations like that as there is way too much possibility for damage to occur if things aren't set up just right.
To the OP, try matching the amp to the subs power handling, or maybe a little under and set the gains properly. You may have a few watts less power going to the sub, but I can guarantee you that the difference won't be audible.
yea but it was just a suggestion(and im not liable for any damage
) if he was interested in doing it im sure he would search or ask for more info then it would get done correctly. I imagine hes juts uning a prefab box and will get shitty equip so no bother me sayin any of this n e wayz.

for amp i plan to run the PT for now until i can get something that can be 1 ohm stable/proper wattage
but then again if we all had crazy money we'd all have the best of the best...so audio in anycase is up to how much ur bankroll is.... i would love a solo x or an Fi running on zapco's but i dont have that kinda doh
wasnt meant to be a asshole remark but it's the truth right? A prefab box like u said. Hey it doesnt take a ton of cash to have a loud or nice sounding system. Just the properly set items. You can take decent subs with a decent amp but a nicely built box and wang pretty hard. As it's said It's all in the box. AS for me yea I've got a crap ton in my set up y cuz I wanted certain gear and I wanted good warranty's. But im sure you will be very satisfied with your end result. I'm surprised Matt hasnt been in yet, im sure he will soon come he is very knowagble and can help a great deal. If you want to know more about setting your gains with a dmm just ask or do some searchin.

the 10" is 99
Don't let the 300w rating fool you..it's all about being efficiency
I don't know of any other woofer for 120..rsdc is better, but cost more. sundown e8's are discontinued...
anyone else?
