Idea for not placing XM Antenna on exterior of car.
What are my other options?
How much signal loss will I have by placing it on my dashboard or rear parcel?

you will loose some signal strength-but it really depends on the area you do most of your driving in as to how much you will notice it. ( ie- around tall buildings, trees, hills etc). I've done many antennas on the rear deck and dashboard for a variety of reasons and haven't had very many come back complaining of significant problems with reception. From my experience XM is better about allowing you to put your antenna on the inside of the car than Sirius is if you were still debating which service to get though.

I put my Sirius antenna on the rear deck and experienced cutouts. I now have it on the trunk waiting for me to secure it. I wonder if there's aftermarket antennas that would work better under the glass in my area...

the reason it is mounted on the exterior is that it will actually touch the metal chassis of the body of the vehicle and use your whole vehicle as an antenna. Which in turn gives it greater reception.
