Post i think i'll leave the head unit....

i went by my audio place to check out some stuff, and an alpine CSR guy happened to be there. it was nice to get info staight from the company.

i got him to check out my system, he said it sounded great considering it was originally a bose system.

i asked if i could get his number to contact him but he said he couldnt do that...

he also mentioned that the phantom face HU's (high end shit) has just been released, and they are planning to release lower end versions of it in 6 weeks or so. AND, he said that they dont plan on making built in MP3 decoders for a while, and when they eventually do, they'll be about an additional $500

anyway, $800 is quite a bit for me to spend to eliminate a low volume hiss...i dont know.

have you looked at Eclipse decks??? I would, they are nice and they are cheaper than $800 for the deck...Plus there is fancy stuff like verbal commands which you can add on later...For a price of course, cause nothign is free these days...

I'd watch out for Eclipse. I have a friend with one of their high end units with navigation. He has had nothing but problems with it and has had both the head unit and the navigation unit replaced several times.
I think the best choice for high end is Nakamichi. I used to swear by Alpine but they have gotten cheap and I don't care for all the fancy shit the new ones have on them with a million buttons and colors and graphics, etc.

Cool

I have no idea what you are talking about...I know many many people who run Eclipse and they are all satisfied and have not had any problems with their decks or Navi's or screens...And Alpine is still pretty damn good at making decks and screens...
