I need Help!!!

I have a 2003 tl type s with navigation. I want to replace the headunit with an after market Pioneer AVH-P6000DVD from crutchfield. It says that if I replace the head unit, I willloose my navigation. Is that true?

That's not true. You will retain your navigation.

What you will lose is: Navigation voice prompts, steering wheel controls and factory sub.

Is there any way to retain voice prompts from the navigation? What if the unit is compatiable with steering wheel controls?

If there is a way to keep your steering wheel controls with the unit, Crutchfield will show it in the "Accessories" section when you're looking at the hu.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone retain the voice prompts.

It will be SWI... and will vary depending on which brand stereo you are using. For instance, Pioneer would be SWIPS, or Eclipse would be SWIECL. I'm pretty sure the "SWI" stand for "steering wheel interface".

for nav audio prompts you will have to use a audio switch at the input of your amps.

something like this.

http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=28

You will have to dig into the harness coming out of the nav unit to find the negative and positive leads for nav voice audio and the mute wire. I beleive it sends a positive mute signal.

Then you take the negative and positive leads and connect them to an rca cable or purchase then ends at radio shack etc.

connect the mute signal and the newly made rca plug into the audio switch and if done correctly it will switch to the audio of the nav everytime there is a sound just like stock.

crutchfield also sells an audio switch that is four channel instead of 2 like this one. so that you may have nav prompts go through all speakers instead of only the front 2 like stock.

These work by putting them in between your aftermarket headunit and your amplifier. If you use speaker leads fromt he headunit instead of the rca's to an amp this will not work.
