Question HU Mount?

I ripped apart the entire dash and found out that the stock radio is held by 3 screws on each side. How do you mount a new HU? Did you guys make/install new brakets, or did you use some pre-frabricated product?

I'm asking because i want to put in a 7" indash LCD monitor but i am not sure how i'm going to mount it.

Any install pics would be great

you can make new brakets or drill wholes in the stock ones and mount it that way... but if that is all you are planning on putting in there is 1 fold out scren then just use the uper stock mounting holes...

does anyone have detailed instructions for making the brackets and dash kit. I have attempted to make two different kits, but I am having difficulty with securing the head unit, as well as making the dask kit stable. A good jab to the face and it would cave into the dash!!! If you have any advice, just pretend I'm an idiot, and don't spare the details!

hum some detailed instructions... what are you trying to do... are you mounting 1 unit 2 units... ... what...if you are only trying to mount 1 headunit use the stock holes and bolt to that... if you are mounting 2 i cut out two pieces of sheet metal and secured the two units to that and then drilled holes in that and the stock brackets and secured them together w/ 2 nuts and bolts on each side... as for the faceplate that is a good question... i used 2 1/8 in pieces of abs plastic glued together... then i attached legs to it and mounted it to the stock holes that the headunit use to attach to....

Where did you buy abs plastic from? I was planing to mount 2 units. screen and dvd player. Could i make 1 bigger bracket to fit 2 units? Just use sheet metal, bend it, cut it, and drill it?

yeah i wish i still had my brackets to show you but i just cut out 2 square pieces of sheet metal drilled wholes in it where i wanted to mount the units w/ the gap i wanted between them.. then after i mounted them in the bracket i drilled wholes in the sheet metal and mounted it to the stock brackets... and you should be able to get abs plastic at any of your local plastic shops... you can probably even get them to cut it for you... if you are looking for the woodgrain plastic like mine then i got it from www.selectproducts.com .... i had to glue two pieces together to get it thick enough but i liked the way it turned out... also if you are going for the plastic look to match the stock black plastic you should probably use plexiglass and paint it with flat black paint....

cool, I really have some better ideas than I started with!!! I will give it a shot this weekend, if I still can't get it right.. perhaps I will just buy one from Serenity Sound or Streeteffectz. As for now, I only have one device to mount, so I will keep in mind adding a second device when I design my mounting kit.

(I really should get a camera) I finally made a good dash kit, albiet made out of cardboard. The biggest problem I had was the fact that I was trying to be perfect with my measurements. First I measured the top width, the bottom width, and the height. I had erroneously assumed the the left and right sides where the same angle. hence the warning, no more than 3 beers before trying this!

After I got over this quirk, I was able to quickly make a template out of 1/8" cardboard. Sprayed it with clear acrylic for rigidity, and mounted in the car. Perfect fit. (didn't leave it in there!)

Ok, yes, why didn't I just use plastic. Well, I made a mistake, the same mistake 3 times, so now I am out of plastic and waiting for my stuff to arrive from Select Products.

When I get my plastic, I will detail the instructions, step by step, and I will borrow a camera.

Please tell me if everyone is NOT interested in this, so I don't waste my time making instructions.

I am hoping to get my plastic by this weekend. Once I have the plastic ready, I already have a camera lined up to use. Best case scenario would be this coming Saturday, worse case, Sunday. If my plastic doesn't arrivce by Thursday, I will look to procure some here in town. Will keep ya'll posted!

Weeelllllll.... Here's what happened. First of all, change the oil in your company car. Appearantly, Ford Taurus' don't do well with 8k miles between changes!?!?!?! At 28k miles, I developed a bad knocking noise in the engine.. bad oil, you guess the rest. Anyway, the company gave me a V-A-N to drive. Heaven forbid my wife drive the V-A-N to work. So, needless to say, she woudn't let me have the car, so therfor, I didn't get to partake in my little project. The bathrooms are clean though! I am hoping to at least cut the plastic this week after work, then assemble it next weekend.... If I still have job after this car fiasco thing.....
