Hows yours set-up?
Hows yours set-up?
How have you guys got your boxes designed? I'm working on mine right now, but am starting to second guess my original design. Has anybody ported their box through the pass-through in the rear seat, with 2 rear firing 10s? Waddaya think? I was thinking of trying a slot port this time also.
You start porting on a different face than the subs are mounted, you better know what you are doing. The port is designed to time align the rear and front waves to produce a particular frequency response. Porting anything but the face will make you miserable since the alignment will be jacked up.
Depending on what you listen too, you may want to go sealed. The subs have better control, and have better sound over thier designed freq. tuning, however a sealed box narrows the response a tad over ported/bandpass/4th/5th/6th/etc order enclosures.
Here is a post regarding the setup I did this weekend: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...42#post1256250
I listen to everything from 50 Cent/Jay Z/Eminem to Steely Dan/Diana Krall/other Jazz to Good Charlotte/Blink 182. Overall, the subs sealed give me the best performance over all the types of music. I get clean tight upper end bass, and really loud shaking lower bass.

I disagree. You can port on any side of the box, it depends on your setup and your sub. We do a lot of boxes ported through the rear dash with the subs firing back and have no problems, and we do a lot of Diamond Audio slot ported designs, that are ported just above the sub that sound great. SQ from those boxes is incnredible because of the way that it is tuned, and we have a few focal subs that are designed for SQ that requre a ported box.
Sound quality is personal preference, you may like ported better than sealed, but having the subs firing into the car may make you lose lower bass response because the cabin isn't really that long.

Thanks for your replies, even though their split, kinda like all the installers in town - "hell no, don't do that", and "naw it doesn't matter" I'm gonna tip-toe around this port decision till I'm pretty much done the box, and spare tire cover. I guess you don't know till you try, eh?
I'm done the box. I left it sealed, didn't like it, so I ported it.(same side as subs) and it fu&%in' digs! It's the best sounding box I've ever made.
Thanks for the input. .....now for the spare cover/amp rack.

Can anyone give me an estimate on the cost of mounting my amps in the spare tire area with a plexi window and putting the sub in like you guys had in those pics?
thanks,
