How to wire sub to amp?

I have an old setup that I wanted to hook up.

(1) 12" Eclipse aluminum sub #88120DVC 4 ohm info about sub
(1) Xtant x1001 amp info about amp

How would I wire this so that the amp doesn't blow my sub? Is this way ok?

I would actually wire it in parallel for a 2 ohm load. Yes, you would be running a lot of power to that sub, but I'd rather overpower than underpower. Just make sure to not turn it up too high. Running the sub in a series would only result in 250 watts.

btw, would 12 gauge wiring be sufficient for the subwoofer? what about 4 gauge from battery to amp?

would a fused vs non fused distribution block be better?

12 gauge wire is perfect. Too many fuses in line will cause problems. If you have the fuse up at the battery then you're best off to use an un-fused distribution block.

I would run 4 gauge for the Xtant amp. Since you're running two amps I would run 2 gauge back and then use a distro to send 4 gauge to each amp.

awesome, thanks travis!

so would you recommend wiring the sub and amp in parallel?

Wire them in parallel, and def dont do an 8 ohm load, your amp can't really handle that

What I recommend and what works best might differ. Personally I would run the woofer in SERIES. The wattage rating on that amp is much higher than what the manual says. If the woofer seems to be underpowered while wired in series then I would change it to parallel. However, at 2 ohm bridged (sub wired in parallel) that beastly amp will get hot and draw a HUGE amount of current. If you have a RED TOP Optima this should not be a problem.

Soon.... somebody will pipe in and recommend using a capacitor. A capacitor is a band-aid for a weak charging system. Band-aids only last so long and in some cases hinder the performance of the system. A permanent solution is to upgrade your battery and chassis grounds.

wiring them in series would be the "safe" option. and if it just isn't loud enough, might have to switch it around.

Parallel would be @2ohm, so put out the full power, theoretically would be putting out 1000W, but I've heard that the xtant would put out up to 1500W. Given that it would be 'rated' to put out 250W at 8ohm, you could estimate that it might be closer to 375?

If it's not loud enough, I'd consider going parallel, as usually I like having that extra headroom, but just keep a close eye on the gains and distortion, etc. I think it'd be fine if you keeps the gains down low, and would give you additional flexibility. Just keep it from bottoming out and it should be alright.

also what kind of box will it be in? Usually ported/IB don't need the power to get to full extension.
