How much wire is needed?

This is for anyone who replaced the wiring from head unit to an amp in the trunk, and from that amp to door/kick panel speakers.

I'm trying to find out, as close as possible anyway, how long of a run of Interconnect do I need to reach from the head unit to the trunk, and where in the trunk you're talking about.
Same thing for speaker cable from the trunk to the doors. Anyone that could help me out? I'm buying new cables and don't want to spend a lot more than needed on extra lengths, but I don't want to get too little either and have the entire run wasted. thnx

You might want to just get a measuring tape or somehting and make an educated guess. I just bought bunch and kept the left overs, I'm sure I'll use it for something.

I want to avoid buying "a bunch extra" because of the price. I am one of the people who fully believes in cable sound and know the differences it can make. So while I'm not going insane (well, to some I am), I am buying some good cable. So the closer I can get to the length I need, the better, especially for the interconnect.

Why don't you just take some string and run it through, then take it out and measure it?

Because I don't feel like ripping my car apart. I'm one of those people that has bad luck when I try to do something like that myself. I know where it runs just underneath the carpets, but as to trying to follow exactly where/how it's run elsewhere? Forget it. I don't know how it's bundled up beneath the dash, or exactly how it's run from behind to seats to the trunk.

If you're not doing the install yourself why don't you have the installer get it for you or have them measure it.

I may have to do that with the interconnects. I have a dealer that I do business with that sells Kimber Kable (which is what I'm using) and I know they'll beat the price the installer would give me since they don't sell anything but Lightning Audio cables. ewwww On the plus side, I just found someone selling a 17ft pair of 4tc speaker cable which will be more than enough for what I need. The price was right too. So now I just need to get the interconnects.
I plan on stopping by the installers either this weekend or next to further discuss the install and find out an approx date to get it done. I'll have to see if they're willing to measure for something that they won't be making anything off of.

Just to give you a heads up:
when I installed my system (w/ amps in the trunk)
(2) monster cable RCA (1)4 channel & (1)2 channel
Then the seperates in the doors were wired w/ monster cable [50ft roll](flat/white) as to not make creases anywhere. The roll of speaker cable worked for the seperates/crossovers and replaced the factory wires for the rear deck (6X9) and when it was all done I had about 7 feet or so left over.

Does Kimble Kable have an amp wiring kit for one or two amps? I bought the monster cable kit and it had what I needed. Anything more would be fairly cheap.

Hey Patryn, how goes the install? Just curious, what series of Kimber Kable will you be using? Will you be using their speaker wire as well as Interconnects? Just curious as you may have talked me out of the Monster M series

I'm hoping to get to the shop tomorrow to get everything set up. If I do that, in 2-3 weeks everything should be done.

I will be using Kimber 4tc speaker wire to my components and most likely to my subs. I say most likely becuase I should have enough extra for that short of a run, so why not?

I'd like to use the PBJ interconnects to run my main amp but I won't order them until I can find out a more exact length. The difference between the 5m pair and 6m pair is around $24, which is more than a lot of people spend on the IC's to start with. Hopefully I can get a close estimate this weekend on that too.

I will be using the Illuminations D60 digital interconnect (made by Kimber) between my head unit and 6 disc changer.

So overall everything should sound pretty good. Here's the overall list not including the cables I just listed:

Nakamichi CD700
Nakamichi MB70
Brax X2000
Focal Utopia 165W
JBL BP1200.1
Eclipse 88120 (2)
