How Much Power For Bass

I am in the process of switching amps from MTX to JL. I was wondering, how big a sub and how much power do you think is the minimum that will still fire thru the deck and seats and still sound good? I am thinking about getting rid of the 10" L7 because it takes so much power. I was hoping to get a JL 250/1 and couple it with either a 10" or 12" Image Dynamics. What do you all think. Would 250 be enough for good strong bass?

ok i dont know exactly which id sub you are looking at but i would say that 250/1 would be a little on the low side... i can probably get you the 500/1 for around $390 shipped... and if you are looking for any other jl products i can probably get a pretty good deal on them as well...

I have a ID 10 in my MDX now with only 150 watts from the back channels of my JL 300/4 going to it. It is a 4 ohm, single voice coil sub. Running that and the Image Chameleon 6 1/2"s in the front doors is more than enough bass for me. Just good clean sound. Now, in the TL, I know I have several things working against me. Trunk sub as opposed to open space like the MDX and 5 1/4" Chameleons instead of 6 1/2". The subs I am looking at are the ID and IDQ. The 10" ID takes 175/300, RMS and MAX. The 12" ID takes 250/500. The 10" IDQ takes 250/500 and the 12" 350/700. I thought the 250/1 would be pushing it. I am just not sure if the 250 would get enough bass into the cabin.

Thanks shawhite. I was afraid of that. I really wanted to stay with the 250/1. I may have to save a few more pennies. Thanks again.

I have a JL 500/1 pushing a single 10W6. Dash-mounted remote gain control. Right now everything else is factory... Sounds really good too.

I just had another thought. What about the 300/2? This amp will put out almost 400 watts when bridged according to C A & E. Yes, I am trying to save a few bucks but, if I can't, I can't.

i would say that should work just fine but i would still say go with the 500/1... for an extra $40-$50 you will get another 200 watts... if you are interested i can get you a good deal on the 500/1 or the 300/2...
