You usually don't have to skin the seat. If you remove the seat completely from the car and flip it over, you will release clips remove the skin. Just release these clips and you can feed the wires through the middle of the seat. Sometimes there is enough room to fit your hand/arm through (the foam that gets pushed in will return to shape in a couple of days). My preference is a standard antenna mast fed through, taping the wires to the top end and pulling through with the other end. You only need to fit four primary wires(18Gu.) through there. Power, ground, and two wires for your rca input. Once your raw wires are through the bottom of the seat, you can solder on an rca end. If this is your first video install, just be patient and don't force anything. It really is not as complicated as the end result appears. Good luck and have fun.

Next question would be how does one make the opening for the screens? And how to affix them in place?

LMAO! Getting the wires up the seats isn't that big of a deal. Easiest way is to remove the rear panel off the seat. Usually, there are a couple of pop pins on the bottom edge of the panel, and than the panel pulls out toward you, or up and toward you..depends on what car it is. If there isn't a rear seat panel, best bet is to use a snake, or a wire hanger and feed it down through the seat and tape the wires to the end of it and pull it back through!

Cool! Thanks Street!

When talking with potentital installers about this, what sort of questions and responses should I be looking out for?

One other question. How is the monitor permanently affixed to the headrest, ie. bolted, sewn, glued, etc?

Ask them how they are going to affix the monitor. Ask them if they need to make a new cover for the headrests (if the material is warrantied or anything like that). Ask them if they do the new covers there or send them out (good if they are sent out). Ask if they use video cable up the seat (like an rca cable) or if they use speaker wire (a lot of shops will do this to save money... not a good thing, you lose a lot of video signal and will get interference this way). If the shop is good, they will take the time to explain all this to you, not just say blah blah blah, and try and get you out of the store. LOL. Ask to see other work they have done (try to see something in person, not in a picture). Ask other people in the shop if they have ever been there before, see what they say about the place. Is the place itself kept clean and organized. These are all things to check out, I know it's a lot, but they are all significant factors in making your decision to go with them when you are talking custom work like that (or any work for that matter). See if they let customers wander around their work area (like in the garage portion and all -- you don't want people hanging all over your car, smoking and sh*t like that).

Hope this all helps!

Ron

Well, if you get monitors like mine, the best was would be to have the hole made in the foam, and than fiberglass the hole so the monitor has something to screw into.

Ahhh...like a fiberglass casing for the monitor?! What if it's a Alpine or Pioneer monitor?

Best to do a casing for these type also, but I have seen them done with a plate that mounts to the rear of them with jagged edges that grabs the foam. Not really something I recommend.

Okay, is there anything you could affix over the tv so it doesnt get scratched ? Like clear plexi or something ? And whats the best way to ensure they don't always have power?

Is there any place that sells the head rests so you could buy pair to work on so you have a set incase you ever want to take them out?

StreetEffectz, i'm thinking of installing my two headrest screens myself but have no idea in how or what's the best way to tap power into them. it comes with the whole harness kit with the wiring but no diagram as to where to tap the power from. "do i go straight to the car's battery or tap into another power source?" too bad these screens dont come with a dc socket.

thanks n adv for any comments
