How Deep

Hey kids,

In my 01' CL-S, I will be adding a Kenwood KDC-MP7028/Ipod adapter plus a 5 channel V12 Amp. Please advise of the mounting depth of the door speakers, and any recommendations (60w RMS). Also, rear deck (6x9) install procedures would be great. I did a search but the links are old and never work for me.

Thanks in advance.

R 6x9: Pull the rear seat. Lengthy process. Don't have detailed directions yet.

F doors: Depth is one issue, hole size another. With many better speakers you can't fit their oversize 6.5 in the hole even using a 3/4 or more spacer, because the frame is too wide. The spacer in the door and the speaker frame add up to the same depth as the TSX speaker - 1-1/16 inch plus foam tape. You want to make some spacers for every speaker- if you make them like the spacers I made for the TSX (see the super-DIY thread) then the midbass is better.

Do you have the Bose system with the tweeters in the mirror sails? I don't know if all CL-S have those or not... but I think in that car that you want a smooth tweeter since they are pointing right atcha in those sails.

I would probably use the a/d/s/ 245ix or the DLS UP6 comp kit, or my avincar 5"/tweet comp kit that GoDucks reviewed, but with a higher-power xover designed for a bigger amp. I am not a huge Diamond user, but I know their tweeter can fit in that mirror sail with a little mod (since i buy the same tweeter from the German manufacturer for my kits : )

What's your F speaker budget?

$600 for the F and R's / install. I do want to keep the stock mirror tweeter look. It sounds like the F's are a challenge.

I've Added an Alpine V12 5/4/3 channel amp and a pair of Alpine Type-S (hehe) 6.5 componets and Type-S 6x9's and a 10" Sub. I will post pics when it's finished.

Update: the stock speaker and amp replacment are complete!!!

Install cost me $380. The mids sound much, much better but I can't really tell until I upgraded the HU. I haven't added the 10" sub yet. I shall post pics.

Is there a wiring kit for our CL-S? And is special order or can I pick it up? I would just need the kit to supply power to the HU, as I am fading front and rear on the AMP.

Cheers.
