Lightbulb How about this bose sub replacment...

Check out the HCW8 and the HCW10 the site states that they work in open air applications, i was looking at the hcw-8 since the 10" has a 2.91 inch mounting depth, but i would like to know what you guys think, (esp. sounthbound, DrCookie, etc)

http://www.morel.co.il/car/component...s/frameset.htm

here's the blurb...
In order to develop a series of sub-woofers that would have the best power handling capability, fast transient response and high SPL, Morel has created a range of Hybrid sub-woofers in 3 different diameters. The aim in developing this series was to develop a shallow, compact sub-woofer unit with a low mounting depth and lightweight construction. To achieve this, Morel used their new patented Hybrid motor drive magnet system, manufactured exclusively by Morel, which combines two types of magnets, neodymium and ferrite, to create a motor of tremendous power, while retaining remaining a compact size. By using their large diameter Hexatech aluminium voice coil (75mm - 3") to support a large area of the DPC shallow cone membrane the profile of the loudspeakers remain low and cone breakup distortion at high levels is prevented. The unit is rear vented, with a C.A.R. (Control Acoustic Resistance) filter that improves the acoustic loading by controlling the cone movement, allows the use of smaller cabinets (as small as the center cavity space in the spare wheel) and also free air mounting on rear shelves or door panels. Power handling is further improved by air circulating through the C.A.R.( venting, cooling the voice coil). The model HCW-6.5 is also ideal as a bass mid-range in a custom-made 2-way system.

HCW-8

222mm (8.7'')

Power Handling 170 W
Max.Transient power 600 W
Sensitivity (2.83v1m) 91 dB
Frequency Response 35-3000 Hz
Impedance 4 Ohms
Voice Coil 75mm (3'') Hexatech aluminium
Magnet System Hybrid rear vented
Mounting Depth 67mm (2.36'')

HCW-10

Diameter 263mm (10.35'')
Power Handling 200 W
Max.Transient power 1000 W
Sensitivity (2.83v1m) 92 dB
Frequency Response 30-1200 Hz
Impedance4 Ohms
Voice Coil 75mm (3'') Hexatech aluminium
Magnet System Hybrid rear vented
Mounting Depth 74mm (2.91'')

The elate 9 fits the mounting depth but im not sure how well it would work

These look pretty nice, morel makes some nice drivers as far as a home audio goes...

I would love some input...thanks

just for fun, the spl on this is in range, its another morel speaker

INTEGRA 6

Integra is a unique concept of loudspeakers, exclusively manufactured by Morel, that integrates the tweeter and the woofer into one unit, creating point source sound radiation. In order to reduce the unit mounting depth, particularly in the Integra 4, and to increase the loudspeaker sensitivity (SPL) Morel used their unique neodymium magnet motor drive system. The woofer`s voice coil is a large 54mm (21/8") diameter Hexatech aluminium. For the 5" and 6" diameters Morel use their double magnet ferrite motor drive system. Both are powerful and compact units. The Integra`s woofer cone is made of composite cellulose fiber and "Duralay" coated, increasing cone rigidity. The tweeter is a Neodymium magnet structure and a soft dome with a large 28mm (11/8") diameter voice coil, ferro-fluid cooled. The larger than normal diameter of the voice coil provides wider frequency response. The dome is hand coated with "Acuflex" special coating, providing crystal clear sound. The tweeter is rear-vented and acoustically integrated with the woofer motor drive system, using the woofer`s motor cavity as a rear acoustic chamber. This unique integrated construction allows perfect integration and phase linearity with the woofer, ensuring particularly smooth and linear frequency response. Integra 4 output tags also provided for bi-wiring installation.

SPECIFICATIONS
Diameter 160mm (6.3'')
Power Handling 100 W
Max.Transient power 300 W
Sensitivity(2.83v1m) 90 dB
Frequency Response 50-22000 Hz
Impedance 4 Ohms
Voice Coil 54mm (2 1/8'') Hexatech aluminium
Magnet System Double magnet ferrite
Mounting Depth 60mm (2.36'')

Agree. Morel makes some good speakers but they are not cheap and they are hard to get.

I would say try it out and let us know how it sounds.

Cheers !!!
