Holder for MP3 player

Took the plunge and bought the iHP-140, SNHOND3 and associated cabling.

Now, I need a holder of some sort. (When will it end?!!!)

The problem (or maybe not, dunno) is the player comes with a LCD remote. Which is cool, but then I don't know where to clip it to.

So I'm thinking maybe it's better to have a holder that I can plug the power and line out into.

Anybody got any suggestions? And before somebody tells me to just dump the thing into the arm rest compartment, I want to have some control, so pause, stop, fast forward, etc, etc.

Player dimensions:
10.5 cm (h) x 5.9 cm (w) x 2.4 cm (d)
4 2/16" (h) x 2 5/16" (w) x 15/16" (d)
Line out is at the top RHS, power is at the bottom LHS.

Remote dimensions (just in case):
3.1 cm (h) x 7.1 cm (w) x 2.4 cm (d) (depth due to clip)
1 4/16" (h) x 2 13/15" (w) x 15/16" (d)
Cable to player is on the RHS, jog dials on top middle 1/3 and bottom middle 1/3

Product link: http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/iHP-140.asp (include pictures)

There were suggestions of an universal cell phone holder (from the iRiver forums), but I would have to mount it high, and have cables running all the way down through the center stack.

If anybody needs pictures (like relative size to the TSX components), give a shout and I'll try to take some tonight.

Thanks in advance!

you can check out: http://www.proclipusa.com

they have specific mounts for cars.

if I were you I would hide the player (possibly in the armrest) and if the cable for the remote were long enough, mount it below the stereo/climate controls on the center console stack.

wow... that sounds almost exacty like the mp3 upgrade I want to do... havent got the iHP-140 yet, tho... got speakers first, and when I'm done installing those, i go iRiver shopping..

what I was planning was to have the mp3 player in the arm rest tray, then have the remote come out of the slot and maybe stick it somewhere near the cup-holder (velcroed to the bottom side of the lid?)... I already wired the audio plugs into the lower arm rest compartment, so audio and power will route there...

oh, and this is assuming I know where the buttons are on the remote by feel, and not interested in looking at the LCD...

and on another note:

I'm not sure I'm reading this right, but can you pause, stop, FF, etc. using the remote, if its sticking out from the arm rest...?

Yeah, sorry, I should have stated that I wanted to see the remote too.

Also, with the jog-style switches, sometimes playing by feel is a bit hard.

Took me about two days before I got the hang of it, but I still hit the wrong switch every now and then.

Another reason to mount the player itself in a visible area is because the display on the player is easier to read than the remote.

But the remote is wicked when you're just walking around. Don't have to drag out the entire player and announce to the world that you're carrying a $400+ USD item so they can mug you.

has been a problem with ipods, due to the recognizable white headphones.

From what I've read, that might be an urban myth. Some people did some investigating and the police stations that the reports supposedly came from said they have had no such crimes reported to them.

Honestly, I think it's probably fake - there are tons of people who've gotten after-market headphones. Most people don't like the earbuds anyways.

But, dragging out the player to see what song you're listening to is a sure way to advertise the MP3 player!

For some reason my firewall won't let that link though.

For those of you with an I-pod I will soon have a semi-alternitave that give you function controls.

I got the ProClip for my iPod. It's very cool.

Not only is it car-specific (and player-specific), you can mount it with NO DRILLING.

I had that problem when I clicked that link, but going to the main page brought the site up just fine... maybe the site has a problem with off-site linking...?

The install is THIS weekend. I'm going to a shop. I don't have the skills or stomach to tear up my interior like that.

But…I got almost ALL MY IDEAS and guidance from this forum. I'll do the official kiss-ass list of thank yous when I post pictures.

Bass Mechanic offered to custom fit the Commander but I'm too impatient.

I think I kind of freaked the installer out when I got the quote. I had all these pictures and diagrams and instructions. Everytime he'd mention a "challenge" like "You've got 2 devices going into one Aux adaptor," I'd whip out the Y-cable from Radio Shack. Same deal with mini-to-RCA adaptors. And the GLI. Pretty funny.

I may also get a small amp while I'm at it. I can't WAIT to try it all out.

Does anybody have a picture of their ProClip install? I see that this was a few months ago. Do you have pictures now?
