Help: what is this material?

What's this plastic type material that has the blue light behind it?? Is that just how fiberglass dries (kind of transparent and foggy) and what can you paint it with so the light will still show?

Or can you use plexiglass and paint it a flat silver or white..will the light still shine through?

Any help is greatly appreciated

It is white, just the glow from the neon in the backseat, or where the backseat was. Alpine's website has more pictures.

I know the stuff on the dash is reflecting the blue. I'm talking about the blue light on the driver side door.

I'm guessing it's a etched while plastic of some type with white lights behind it. The etched plastic distributes the light behind it making it look like it's entirely illuminated. I'm also guessing he did some creative placement of the lights so that the light showing through was consistant. I can picture in my mind how it's probably done, but I'm having a hard time explaining. Hope this helps.

It's plexi glass. But it's been "frosted" to perfection. It's backlit with custom EL lighting.

I would think the hard part is bending the plexiglass.

I think you can frost it by sandblasting the backside of the acrylic. You'll need to use a fine compound though...
