Help with Stock Sub Replacement
Well - over the course of a year, I've replaced everything but the stock sub (which I'm changing out). I'm now running an Alpine 9830 HU with Infiniti Tweets, JL Audio 6 1/2" in the front and rear doors (each pair running off separate amps).
With the stock sub disconnected, I want to replace it with an aftermarket subwoofer (or even a MidBass as discussed in some other threads). The guy at my local stereo shop owes me a basic subwoofer (approx $100 value)- but he has to special order it.
What should I tell him to replace my stock sub with.
I'm not looking for extremely low bass - a midbass or basic 8" sub would be fine, I just want to simply replace the stock and then temporarily run it off the head unit (I'll buy an amp later)..
Any suggestions?

So what you've done isn't actually to replace eveything, but to replace all the speaker drivers? And you want to replace the free-air woofer with another free air woofer running off of the same factory amp?
I just want to make sure I'm accurate before I tell you my recommendation...

You are correct about replacing the factory free-air sub with an aftermarket free air sub - but I want to run it off my Alpine Headunit (9830) since the factory HU and Amp has been removed. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I've also had all new speaker wire put in throughout the system.
Thanks

1) Free-air subs are tricky...
2) I have never run any sub off of head unit power. Their deck power isn't enough, it usually isn't flat in frequency response on the bottom end of the range, and their xovers aren't conifugred for it.
3) The wiring diagram for the 9830 gives no indication that its internal xovers would be so configurable.
4) It's a bad idea. Get a small 2-channel amp and bridge it mono. I would suggest some amp with a variable subsonic filter to take the ultra-low bass out - free-air subs do better that way. A small DLS CLassic CA-22 would give you that feature: http://www.dls.se/english/index.htm
5) You need a good 8". I haven't done that sub before, but is there a depth limitation?
