Did you try and contact alpine for some support? Initial thought is something is overloading and causing the headunit or amp to go into protection.

Alpine may be using a polyswitch on their tweeters, which is a thermal protective device that cuts them out until the crossover has cooled down.

Pop the crossover boxes, you should see a polyswitch. This is what one looks like

So one thing that could be happening here is that with deck power, you might be clipping the signal thus the polyswitch is protecting. Not sure, but if you have an amp attached this might not happen. Either that, or you are playing much, much louder than these wee little speakers can handle.

BTW, you said "taped up", but please god tell me you mean soldered THEN taped up. You didn't just twist wires together and use electrical tape, did you?

Yes what fourthmeal said, you are overloading these ie: too loud. The built in resistor or polyswitch is cutting your tweets off. Ive seen it a lot with mtx's and low end co-ax 2 way speakers. Solutions: 1.turn down treble 2. Turn down music 3. upgrade to better speakers ie: 3 way's or my personal fav, any infinity speaker 4. Amp them (4ch)...Good Luck
