CL: Help/questions with avic d3 install in '01 CL-S
Help/questions with avic d3 install in '01 CL-S
I finally decided to replace the deck in my car, and my buddy hooked me up with his old avic d3. My CL Type-S has the stock Bose stereo, but I couldn't find a stock sub or amp. Is it supposed to be clearly visible or is it hidden away? I'm planning on going with the Metra dash kit, but I have a question about the harness that you can buy to have the aftermarket deck plug into the factory harness. I notice they say they are not for use with the premium sound systems, but if my car is missing the stock sub & amp, could I use this harness or no? Sorry if this is confusing, I'm still trying to search for answers. Thanks!
the CL does not have a subwoofer, but it does have an amp. the amp will be mounted inside the trunk, on the passenger side, behind the trunk liner. If you open the trunk and look at where the jack is.. its further forward that that... i hope that made some sense.
not sure about the harness, or whether or not it will bypass the factory amp. but a quick search in this forum should reveal the answer for you.

Thanks for the reply. I went back through a few of my old posts and realized I had tracked down the amp when I put in my own amp & sub, running off the stock deck. As far as the wiring harness, I'm still unsure. I see threads of people using the Metra dash kits, but no comments yet on the wiring harness. I'll do a little more searching after work tomorrow.
Nothing on this site gave me any help, and after talking to a few local car audio installers, I decided I wanted a better idea of what I needed, instead of an "Oh, we'll take care of it for $150" with NO explanation of what they were going to actually do.
I called up Crutchfield to get the answers and ended up ordering eveything I needed through them. Absolutely amazing customer service! The guy did a great job of walking me through each part I needed and explained everything as he went. After completing my order, I called back about another question I had. Using caller ID, they had my name, car info and the order I just made pulled up before I had a chance to even ask him what I needed to. I thought that was pretty cool.
So here's what I ordered:
-Honda/Acura Wire Harness receiver, 1998-up...ITEM #120701721 ($12.99)
-PAC SOEM-4 Universal Interface...ITEM #127SOEM4 ($29.99)
-(Metra)Acura TL/CL Kit 2001-03 Acura Cl, 99-03 Acura TL, DD...ITEM #120957868B ($19.99)
I'm horrible at explaining technical stuff, but it made sense coming from him, lol. He said that PAC SOEM-4 is what I needed to keep the factory amp/speakers intact without bypassing anything. As close to plug & play as it gets. $70 shipped, and it'll be here sometime next week, so this install will happen next Saturday. I'll make sure to update this when I'm done, and add a few pics too. Crossing my fingers that Metra has fixed the warping issue I notice with the kits posted from others on this site.

Whats going on... I just saw your thread about AcuraFest. Wish I could go but I've already got plans. I live in Lodi now, so you guys will be passing right by me too. Maybe by next year I'll have some stuff done to my car too!
You bet, but your more then welcome to come even if your stock, we dont care. All we care is about the number of cars coming. You can get ideas for mods, ask questions about your car with other fellow members or just sit and chat with them.
Theres another meet coming to sac in 2 weeks so if you havent strolled over to the sacramento thread under regionals, I suggest you do so. I will post the info about it in there.

Hey, You dont need the pac-oem adapter. the deck will turn on the bose amp and work fine. actually sounds pretty good too. All you have to do is hook up the amp remote turnon from the aftermarket deck to the power antenna wire on the wiring adapter. The Bose amp turns on from the power antenna sgnal as there is no actual power antenna.
Finally got the deck installed. I tore the car apart, and after playing with the wiring for about 30 minutes I gave up and called a stereo shop to do the install. I didn't want to be getting in over my head, and some of the wires had been altered for the previous car it was in. I'd rather pay to have it done right than fry something.
Looks great, and there is really no gap at the top of the dash kit. I'm 100% happy with it so far.

Once you know the model # you need you can check, crutchfield, eBay etc..
Cheapest I see it at a retailer is $39.33 at Amazon, didn't check eBay.

the adapters are a pain in the ass to get working.. id recommend professional installation..
they require lots of programing which i had to have a friend help me with. (it takes about 3 hands)

Little update...
I did the e-brake bypass so I could update the nav settings while I am driving and watch movies. Thanks to Resupported, I can watch stuff from my phone, and on a whim I decided to try Netflix.
I'm sure this isn't new information, but I don't get a lot of time to search the forums.
