Help with possible set up, please.

Hey guys, what do you think of this set up:

JL audio 500/5 amp. It gives 100x2 front, 25x2 rear, 150x1 subwoofer. I will use QM218.61Q components for the front, and something else (I don't know exactly what for the 6x9 rear). Do you guys think that 25x2 for the rear is alright with this set-up, because rear is just used as fillers, or do I need more power for the back? What I like about JL amp is that it works 12-15 volts, so I won't get any fluctuation, it will always under any condition put out 100 amps.

What do you think? Also, do you have any recommendations for the back? (model numbers if you can)

Thanks.

personally i am not a big mb quarts fan... so i would say go with some different speakers... maybe focal or diamond audio or if you really have money rainbow pro or brax...for the price you are paying for the mb quarts you could get some diamond auido s600 or some focal polyKs both of which will sound alot better than the mb quars... I would lean more towards the diamonds due to them having a better mid bass response... that just me.. as for the amp... I personally will go with 2 sperate amps .. 1 for door speakers one for subs but that is me.. but the jl amps are nice... i have two of them in my car.. i think that you will bet cutting the rear speakers short with 25w rms...

I have to disagree with shawhite on this one, in fact everyone of his posts his suggestions I often disagree with. He obviously knows the stereo game, but is partial to those 3 brands. I am not sure what type of sound you are trying to reproduce whether SPL, SQL or competiton, however I do know that you as a human being just having fun with a stereo would find it hard to hear the difference between diamond audio and focals to most major brands. MBquart on the other hand does have a downfall. If you listen to their reproduction it is way to crisp-it almost hurts becuase the sound doesnt even seem real. My advice is if you enjoy a brand stick with it, so MBquarts in the back will be fine-at least the sound will be the same throughout the car. As far as the amp goes, JL designed this amp for a reason and although the 25 RMS does seem low, it will suffice especially if you have a good sub running on the 250 RMS. Just my opinion and nothing against shawhite.

Go with 2 amps. 150w for the sub is pretty low. If you are into competition, you may want room to expand.

hey acurajl you are correct the 500/5 does get 250w to the sub i guess i should have checked the specs myself before speaking but oh well... i still think that the 25w from teh rear is weak... as far as the brand of speakers i recommended well i guess i am parcial... i just have always had good luck with those brands and i like you i think that mb quarts are too bright... not to mention i think they are way over priced... there are alot of speakers out there that sound better than mb quarts and cost 1/2 as much... i just mention da and focal since they have always treated me right...

thanks guys, good info. I did, however, changed my set-up. Here is what I am thinking about getting:

Diamond Audio s600s components. (I found them for $315)
JL Amp 450/4, 150x2, 75x2 (about $500)
For the rears I don't remember what I am getting. But it will cost me about $120-$130.
Then I will get a mono amp, possibly another JL, and I already have a 10" JL sub. I am not sure what's the strengh of it though.

FPAEP: I am confused as to your objectives with the stereo. Are you looking for competition in governed organizations? I have other questions too and if you would like to discuss it on AOL you can hit me at Primo128. If that isnt available to you I hope you can give more input as to what you are trying to accomplish and why you have chosen your products. I am an audio enthusiast and have been for almost 10 years and am experienced in the stereo competition.

so why the switch to the da s600 i mean personally i think that it was a good decision but i am just curious if you are basing you whole system off of what other people think is good or are you actually going and auditioning this equipment for your self... i think that before you buy anything you should go to your local car audio store and audition as many speakers as possible so you can find out what sounds good to you...

pretty good choices, it seems like you are another JL fan...i would go with all JL if you already have the JL 10 inch sub...and i would go with the 450/4 + 500/1 but that's a lot of money...and i would also go with the XR series compoent set because a good set of front speakers can make or break ur car's system....and u should hear them before you buy them...but it would be very nice if you can stick with all JL...

From my experience, I like the Diamond Audio speakers better... They have a lot better build quality and crossover than the JL... You mentioned that the JL amp puts out the same power at 12-15 volts, and it also does the same power at 2 and 4 ohms... First of all there are a few more amps that do that, Xtant and Diamond Audio, both of which have better crossovers and tend to sound better (at least to me)... The regulated power supply that gives the same power at different voltages, also takes away free power when the voltage is up, which it is typically going to be...
