help with mounting amps?
#2
There have been a few different places for amps. The back of the seats will work if the amps fit there. Some people mount them on the sides in those cubbies. Thats where my speakers are. Here is my temporary amp rack. I can still drop the back seats and fit longer things in the car. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...i-IMG_2496.jpg

GMFREED- are you running directly from the factory deck to the EQS or are you using a line driver or dash eq? If you are, what brand of line driver/eq are you using and do you get any extra noise like alot of people on this forum talk about.

tonka_146, I mounted mine on the back seat with no problems, but hate that cargo could bang up the clean amp.
I posted my big 4 channel Sony (11x 13ish) up for sale to get a small 2 channel and do just that (like a Kicker which should fit with the end bling removed). Now you have me rethinking that. My Sony's heat sinks are on the sides, still I would think the engineers would design the heat path to go UP and now down. Now mounted to the rear deck (metal to metal) would mean some heat would be transfered by contact, but the heat path would still be reversed. Has anyone tried this? Build an amp shelf perhaps?

I have seen a tsx amp shelf under the back deck. Acuradog has/had and amp mounted under the back deck right side up. I would suggest putting it on a set of drawer/hinges so you can kinda unlock and pull it out. The amp racks I have seen require it to be unscrewed to move the amps in order to tune or adjust it.
Mounting an amp on its side is still way better than upside down. If you mount it upside down the heat radiates through the pc board to the bottom instead of to the heat sinks. Could create problems.

If you use an amp, like JL Audio slash series, you can mount them in any direction at any angle. Because of their placement of the heat sinks, no matter what direction the amp is, it will still pull heat away from the amp.
