Help me choose a Sub/Subs!
I want to spend around $350 for a pair of subs.
I see on Ebay that they sell pairs of Infinity Perfect 12's for around $300. That sounds real good.
I was told to go with JL w3s instead, but I figure they will be a pit more pricey.
Or should I go with (1) JL w7 10"?
How much would a box be? I was told they have to make a custom one with rails b/c the wood cant support them.
Or any other ideas?

Be the first on your block. They are now shipping.
Taken from Dan Wiggins at Adire:
"Thought I'd give the skinny here first. Basically, we're rolling out the baddest subs ever built (did you expect anything less? ). The Brahma Series drivers. Preliminary details are at:
http://www.adireaudio.com/cd/brahma_series.htm
Starting with a 12" driver, we'll also offer 10", 15", and 18" versions in the upcoming months. The DUMAX-verified Xmax is 27.32mm one way - higher than ANY other driver on the market today, bar none, at any price.
Power handling is in the 1600W RMS/4500W peak level. They can take tremendous amounts of power, and keep going (we blasted the prototype with a full 3400W from our QSC Audio PLX3402 for 30 minutes, without a problem).
This is not your typical "daily driver" type sub. This thing was designed and built to obliterate the "super subs": ID's IDMAX, Digital Designs 9900, Eclipse Titanium, Ground Zero Plutonium, JL 12W7, etc. Basically chew them up and spit them out, then ask for more...
It also works in tiny boxes; a Qtc=0.8 only needs 0.5 cubic feet (stuffed with 10 ounces of polyfill). TINY space for a 12" driver. Loaded in 1.75 cubic feet, tuned to 25 Hz, this thing will simply pound out the deep bass. Feed it a good kilowatt, and it'll rattle your eyeballs with huge SQ and SPL.
It's not a real efficient sub: 84 dB @ 1W, 1 meter. In other words, if you want to run 500-1000W, and can handle larger boxes, multiple Tempests or a single Maelstrom may be a better choice.
And with the technology in it, it's not cheap, either. Retail will be $369 for the 12" driver (introduced on a preorder basis at a lower cost). Performance costs, but as usual we've done our best to keep the cost under control.
For extreme applications, this is THE driver on the block. The dual 2 ohm voice coils means you CAN run it as a 1 ohm load, and get the full power from your amp. Or run a JBL BP1200.1 per voice coil, and drop a couple of kW into this unit.
Anyway, I thought I'd let you guys know first. Don't worry, we're not abandoning the lower end! Shiva, Tempest, and Maelstrom will all continue here, and we're always working to make them better. The Brahma just fills out the line. Budget pounding? Shiva. Affordable SPL competition? Tempest. Big SPL on a power budget? Maelstrom. Two-by-four upside the back of the head? Brahma"

My choices were Polk Momo or the Kicker Solobaric. Went with a single Solobaric. Very very clean sound.
If you go with 2 10s Polk Momo, you should be able to get them for $350. I bought all my stuff off Ebay.
If you have never bought from Ebay and you are interested in doing so, e-mail me. Buying off Ebay is not diffficult as long as you are careful who you buy from.
The amp I went with is sweet. I have a knob that is mounted by the cruise on/off switch that will let me adjust the bass on the sub.

Ok, for 1200w from any of those JBL amps it would have to be the 1200.1. It is actually a 1 channel (mono) amp not a 2 channel. In all honesty, I would suggest getting 2 Crystal CMP 12's. They are selling at fantastic prices at www.mmxpress.com and www.sounddomain.com These are excellent spl/sq subs, and in my opinion blow the JL W3's and the Infinity Perfects right out of the water, I have never been a huge fan of the Type R's far too much overhang no matter how you listen to them. They are each 4 ohm SVC's so you could wire them for a 2 ohm load on that amp and get the full 1200w. I usually do not recommend specific models as I think that audio is purely subjective, but the prices for the Crystal's are just too good to pass up.

autophile1 : what a system you will wind up having. Have fun finding an installer. I was at a shop and saw a kid with a done up Civic with a system. He referred me to the guy that did mine. Such a pain trusting someone to do a decent job.
Also, if you get trunk rattle, put the door edge on the trunk..

i'd say the Perfects. i've got 2 12's and they crush. and i'm not even pushing all the power they can handle to them. but you aren't going to get them in your price range. 350 isn't a lot of money if you are looking for a pair of quality subs. the new Solobaric is tight too. but i would only go with one cause it needs a big a$$ box. so 2 would take up your whole trunk. but i definitely endorse the Perfects.

I ended up getting my new subs. I found a wholesale Alpine dealer down here in Tampa. I got (2) Alpine Type-R 15"s for $199 a peice. I went to another store and they said lowest they would go is $375 each. So i got those and a custom box made.

Oh yeah, they are loud.
