HELP! Finally done, but lots of problems with my navi conversion!

Damn, I'm happy that I'm done, but mega problems with it!!

1 - When using a Playstation 2, the screen isn't centered. Its shifted .5cm to the right.

2- The Green signal from BOTH Navi and AVC/playstation randomly go out. Result: a thick saturated RED color on the screen, but Green randomly comes back on again.

3- Looking CLOSELY at the screen, I can see high-frequency wave patterns running vertically.

4- Whether I'm in accessory mode or Engine-On, when I apply the brake, the screen flickers.

5- Overall, a little fuzzy. Quality not that good.

I need HELP! Cuz man, this is bad.
Here's my setup:
--------------------------------
I have an ON-ON switch next to steering wheel which runs to trunk. This is connected to a 4PDT 12V step relay. RGBC wires were tapped from behind REAR-LEFT seat, then wired down into bottom of trunk. both AVC-RGB1 and relay lie next to spare tire.

Anyone got any insights on this? I'm gonna be using my friend's garage tomorrow to recheck wiring, but just wondering if you guys could help me out on anything else in the mean time...

thanks guys. -Andy

My RGB-1 is in the front console near the front passenger seat. The hookup is at the rear passenger Navi just like yours.

I have two problems initially. The R and G were reversed within the RGB-1 colour-wise so I have to adjust my hookup. Then the splicing was loose so I use these telephone clips from Radio Shack #64-3080 that have some sort of gel in them for a more solid connection.

Could the lines be cause by where your RGB-1 is located in the trunk? Or maybe your wires aren't grounded so well or run near another wire that's interfering. Strange your screen is fuzzy because my Navi is showing/playing a DVD that is crystal clear; much better than any regular TV set.

I would definitely take a second look. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

1. Mine is that way too, but only on games. When playing movies, it's fine. Haven't found a way to fix it yet.

2. Must be a bad connection, and if it's going out on both the navi and ps2, then it must be on the ouput side of the relay.

3. I notice this sometimes too, but not all the time. Haven't figured out a fix for this either. Maybe has to do with other accessories on in the car? Not sure.

4. Strange shit... loose connection maybe? Or perhaps some kind of ground problem. I would ask, does it do it when the car is running or only in accessory and on mode?

5. Mine isn't as sharp as my home tv, but it still looks pretty good. I doubt there is anything wrong. It looks to me like the outer part of the screen has a kinda diffusing film to it... maybe something to do with the touch screen feature.

Kensteele- Yeah, I'm using those telephone guage-sized plugs... those things are awesome butt connectors.

The RGB was bought new from a person. Buying a faulty RGB unit is the last assumption I would make at this point.

mcdanjw-
thanks for your input.
1- (PS2 screen shifting) Yeah ok, I plugged in a stand-alone DVD player and the picture is centered now. So that's solved.

2- Yeah, I know now for a fact that the Green signal is the one that's missing because when I switch to Navi, the Green clock is gone. I'll just check connections again tomorrow. (i hope i can pinpoint the problem though.

3- As for the vertical wavepatterns, well, I guess I'm just gonna have to live with it for now.

4- Yeah, the brake lights cause the flicker BOTH in ACC and ENGINE ON modes. I noticed that applying the brake causes a 0.55 voltage drop across most accessory +12V terminals... But when the engine is on, the alternator kicks in and I get 14.4V, so that shouldn't affect the relay much at all.
You really think brake light flickering is caused by an improper ground?

Kensteele- Like in audio, do you think its REALLY necessary to isolate power lines from signal wires for video? Especially since the wires are shielded (somewhat)?

Man, I think I just gotta go to a meet, or something so I can do a direct comparison for quality. For me, its not really fuzzy, but as you said it... it looks like ur watching video through a thick dense film. Kinda weird.
well, thanks tho guys!

No, I meant maybe your RGB1 was re-wired incorrectly in making it work with the Navi. Maybe there's a loose wire/connection within the box. But when you say even the Navi is affected, I had that problem too. Turns out the original connector for the wire harnass was not fully plugged into the backseat Navi. Pull out the harness and re-plug it in making sure it is fully seated. Seems those new connectors were tugging on the harness a bit.

Again, when playing a DVD, the screen is nice and crisp and clear thru and thru. But that might just be me. I've been told that my RF modulator that I use to play the sound thru my stock speakers is crappy sound but that sounds ok to me, too.

Also, if you mount the decoder TOO FAR away from the screen, you will get a lot of interference.
