Help choosing a tablet....2 of them
Ok help me choose:
Tablet1:
I will be gifting my dad this tablet....he is very proficient with computers....he works as a Marketing Manager for a big firm and has some long travels coming his way....he will be basically sitting in the car and chilling while the chauffeur drives
What am looking for in this tablet, is basic word/excel EDITING capabilities with decent battery life....he is back in India so not worried about 4G....3G will work just fine + WIFI is a good added advantage....
I am really digging the ASUS transformer PRIME as you can do all of that in it plus more....but wanted some insight from you guys....
Tablet2:
Now this will be going in my car....i am gonna replace the stock radio in my TL with this tablet and be running some app to display all the gauges....plus will be running the line out to a processor and then an amp and to my speakers....so this one has to have a nice line out Voltage....
I am actually thinking of the Ipad but then fell in love with the Samsung Galaxy tab 8.9
What am looking for in this tablet, is amazing map capabilities....i know Android beats the IOS in every way when it comes to map and directions and need 3G/4G for the map + pandora...
so well there it is....
Help me
Thanks
PS: lets not turn this into a IOS v/s Android war....Also mods if I posted this in the wrong section please move it as needed

^^^ ok....i have used an ipad and have to admit it is a great device....
but couple things i do not like about it:
music (itunes controls everything)
no SD card slot
all apps are so damn expensive (as compared to the android market)
its a little big....i love how the samsung galaxy tab 8.9 fits in your hands
am not listing the pros as we all know the pros....

Really it boils down to how much you want to spend and if you want something out of the box or you know how to configure it on your own.
If you want something that comes out of the box with little to no configuration and have the money to spend, get the iPad. Also, the majority of the Android tablets have GPS built into them so you don't have to buy the more expensive model. If you have time to tinker and want to save money get an Android device.
I have the Transformer (Original) and I still believe it is the best money you can buy for a tablet especially with the dock. Both the dock and the tablet can be had for around $300-$400 used or around $250-$350 just for the tablet alone. The dock gives extra battery life of around 6-8 hours on top of the tablets pushing it to 14-16 hours of total battery life, comes with GPS which works great btw, 2 USB ports which take any USB peripheral device (external hard drives, USB sticks, mouse, webcam, even a 3G dongle if you learn how to flash the appropriate drivers, etc.) a full sized SD card slot on top of the microSD card slot already found on the tablet itself. Currently, ASUS is dealing with some random reboot issues with the latest release of ICS BUT if you know how to customize and flash ROMS, there is a new kernel fix that ASUS released a few days ago that seems to have fixed it. ASUS will be rolling out their own update soon but for now, if you don't know how to flash your own stuff, you have to deal with it although the update should be coming any time now.
The Transformer Prime is similar to the original Transformer but if you want to save money, get the original one. The dock is very useful by the way as it turns the tablet into a netbook basically. If you want to save even more, take a look at the Xoom WiFi, they're on clearance right now at Target for $250 and since its a Google Device, it gets updates first. You can pair it with any bluetooth keyboard and mouse, as with all Tablets. I also recommend you take a look at the Acer 200, 500 should be getting ICS soon and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be getting ICS soon as well.
Another thing to note, if you're gonna use the tablet strictly to play games and entertainment (although Android does accept more codecs out of the box), I say go for the iPad. If you're going to use it for productivity mainly and some gaming and entertainment (movies you rip on your own), then go with the Android tablets.

Ive been toying with the idea of replacing my nav screen with a 7" android tablet as well.
Getting video to display on the tablet from a dvd player and a back up camera kind of blow that idea away though. Havent really seen a product or products that wouls allow me to seamless incorporate it in to the car though.
Tegra 3 in the transformer prime is killer though.

there's a 7" Asus tablet coming out rumored to be working with Google to be the official "Google Tablet". Will come with ICS, and price point at $149-$199 with a 1280 x 800 resolution display... I think the 7" screen might even be better than a 10" so it's NOT taking up so much room.

am stuck on SAMSUNG GALAXY 8.9 v/s IPAD !!!
to top the deal off, AT&T has an offer....buy the galaxy tab and get the galaxy s2 skyrocket for free
i might jump on that....
also what sets the ipad aside is the ios and the apps...but i would be using only 2 apps on the galaxy tab....torque pro and pandora....

My gf has the iPad 2, i really don't understand the big fuss about them, people talk about it like it's heaven sent (same goes for the iPhone, she has the 4S, i have the Galaxy Nexus, i can't tell you how many times she's said "wait, your phone DOES that??")
