Head-Unit replacement
Hello all, 1st time posting here.
I've got an '02 TL T-S & I'm looking to replace my head unit with a Kenwood z828. For around $1000.00, a local shop will install the unit, install a new RF Punch 200.4, re-wire to existing speakers, and install my existing (cheezy, I know) punch 40.2/RF series1 10" subs. I'm not out for competetion sound, I just want good quality and a good thump inside the car. My question is: Is this a decent deal? Also I've heard alot of things from different people trying to sell me many things. I've heard that the factory amp/speakers aren't able to work with any head unit other than stock, or that the speakers are 1 Ohm and must have factory amp to work properly. I've also heard that you can get an interface between the factory wiring and new head unit that makes it compatible. Perhaps someone could fill me in on the truth as to what my options here are. I'd like to replace all my speakers down the road, but not at this point if it's not absolutely nescessary. Thanks.

1000 bucks for an install is crazy man, don't u think u'd be better of just changing out ur speakers instead of getting the whole car rewired, probably cost u less. i didn't know that it was possible to wire a aftermarket amp to those speakers, i heard the whole 1ohm thing too. but i guess for a 1000 bucks new windows of possibility open up nice and wide, i'd say wire the head unit in there and just chill w/ the 200.4 for a lil while, i changed out my head unit, using and adapter that my local shop got me, and didn't change my speakers(will do that soon) and since they are separetly amplified the whole system is still packin the facotry listed 200 watts so ur not really gaining anything except a whole in ur pocket by wiring that 200 in there. i'd think u'd be better of waiting till u want to change ur speakers, just my humble opinion.
p.s. save that grand and upgrade ur subs, lol just playin man

Heheheh, Well, the z828 is 650.00 and the 200.4 is 275.00, so I'm paying 75.00 for complete re-wire, installation of both amps, custom mounting of unit, and sales tax. I don't believe I can just change out my speakers w/out re-wiring the vehicle. (or can i?) I had concidered the adapter, but heard that the sound quality goes down a bit and since everything was apart in the car already, it would be easy to re-wire and I would be all set to upgrade to good speakers when I wanted to. Does your system sound decent with the aftermarke adapter? If so then I definately will sink the money into a real sub. What brand of adapter is it? Also, is your car a 2002?
Thanks

sorry about that man, i thought a grand was a little outrageous . yeah my system sounds good w/ the adapter, i had some distortion at fisrst but i adjusted the settings on the unit a lil and it sounds fine now, only thing is if i turn it up a lil too much my mids & highs start to peak out, that sounds kinda nasty, probably go away when i change my speakers tho.
