Has anyone ever heard of this being done? Amp question

To make a long story short, for X-mas I asked for some car audio equipment and I got two amps a Rockford P8002 and a Rockford 700s. I figured since I have them I might as well figure out a way to use them both (instead of selling one). I have a bandpass box with two 12s. I wanted to put one amp on one sub and use the other amp to power the other. My question is has anyone ever hooked up two different amps on the same box. My understanding is that they are basically the same amp but the p8002 is the newer model. I looked up the specs and the wattage is similar. Maybe off by 50 or so watts. I have called around and have gotten different answers.

Some have said that since the amps are not the same it could cause problems. Others say that there is a way to get the amps to output the same wattage. What do you guys think???

you really need that much power? for 12's in a bandpass box?

doesn't rockford rate the p8002 at 800W, and the 700s at 700W max?
i probably wouldn't recommend it, but i guess it doesn't hurt to try, haha. it might not sound that great, just like running different kinds of subs, but i mean if it's in a prefab bandpass box, i wouldn't expect all that much sound quality out of them anyways.

you might also be able to strap the amps together. I honestly don't know too much about strapping amps together, as i've never done it. but i know it's possible w/ some amps. i forget if these amps are made to do that, especially cause they aren't matching, but maybe look into that as well.

also depends on the impedence and VC config of you subs.....cause if you can run them together, you can wire them in parallel, so really you'd get the same power whether you ran one amp for both, or one for each. rite? but i can't tell cause i'm not sure about your subs.

I wouldn't do it personally, but you can get away with it, as long as you can have them hitting at the same time, meaning they are getting the same signal from the rca's

I would just use one out of two. Then sell the other one to get other car parts

or sell one and buy a twin for the other. I would try using the more powerful one on both subs and see if you're happy with it. You can turn the gain down on 1 amp and kinda match them up equally, but that's a little "ghetto."

Ghetto?

I kinda thought the same thing -- but I figured if you cant see the amps, then it wouldnt matter.

Is there any way other than playing arround with the gains that you can match the wattage going to the two subs??
