Has Anyone DynoMat their TL??????

I am running over 1200 watts into a pair of 12's and my TL trunk is so light that it rattles like crazy and all I can hear outside the car is rattles. I was thinking of bringing my car out to have someone dynomat the whole trunk but I don't think it will get rid of all the rattles. I can literly see my trunk flex in and out and it is crazy loud. So now I only turn my volume no more than 10 otherwise its a joke from outside. So just need some input you guys. And how much would it be to dynomat just the trunk?????

i would suggest that first you dynamat anyways, and see how much that helps out....then take it from there. even if it doesn't stop ALL the rattling, it is worth it, because it will make your subs sound so much better.

your trunk will still rattle - pretty bad. because the subs are moving so much air inside the trunk that it is, like you said, actually moving the trunk lid. Dynamat wont help that, but it will help the sound inside the cabin. who cares what it sounds like outside - just turn it down at stop lights so you dont look like a jackass and be happy that you have a sweet system

So you all think it is worth the $$ spent to dynomat my trunk. Anyone knows how long it will take a shop to do and much they would charge. Plus would dynomat really make the sound inside so much better??

Why do I see so many cars out there that has a kick ass sound system so loud that outside sounds just as good with minimum or no rattles at all from outside. I am very happy of how it sounds inside so I am trying to acheive the same outside. Not like I want people to hear my car from outside but sometimes when you just want to crank your stereo up a bit you don't want your car to sound like a peice of shit system from outside. Is their a good way of maybe realeasing the base out of the trunk so it would not rattle as much. I even opened up my ski hole and that only helped maybe 10% or less. I was thinking of converting my OEM sub bracket in the rear deck taking the OEM sub out and convert it into a base vent so maybe that would help a bit. What do you all think.

Have you done anything to prevent rattles yet? if not there are steps to be taken to reduce the rattles..

1st step would be to untwist the two rubber stoppers (located on the LID of the trunk) a few turns.. This holds the holds the trunk a little higher causing the trunk to be held down tighter. Basically the trunk is held tight while it is closed, if the rubber stoppers are screwed in fully there is some "play" in the trunk lid allowing it to bounce back and forth (in the latch) while it is closed.

I'm also going to increase the foam insulation/seal for the trunk....prevent trunk ratteling.

And you may want to check the thread in the 2nd gen forum.. "anyone know why we have a vent in our trunk?" there is pics of my trunk stripped... I found a vent in the trunk... which can cause havok for the sound in your car if it's not sealed..

I'm about to sound proof the entire car.. trunk, roof, floor, firewall, doors, etc... Ive got 2400watts in my trunk... two Fifteens!! I know exactly how you feel...

With regards to the pricing... I would suggest getting "brown bread" instead of Dynamat.. it is cheaper and it will give you the same results.. Don't waste your time on trunk kits or door kits.. buy a bunch and then cut it yourself... In fact a couple member here and I are looking into buying a huge ammount and then doing our entire cars... volume discount... anyone is welcome to send me a message if you're interested in grabbing some.... we're still looking for the best price, the more people we get the lower the price..

you can also move the trunk latch down...only a 1/4 inch maybe, but that lets your trunk shut down tighter...you can kinda tell that it is slightly lower than the side panels, but I can only tell because I know its like that

there is also a product called "peel n seal" that is actually used for roofing. same material with same effects as dynomat. i got a 99 ft x 3 ft roll back in the day for like $60. super deal for the amount. enough to do at least 2 trunks per roll.

I personally dislike any ashpalt-based material, and use Cascade Audio vinyl. Lighter than Dynamat, smaller pieces work better, and no possibility of smelling like roofing tar on a hot day. I've had that problem after using Dynamat-like products, and I'll NEVER do it again. Cascade is available at Parts Express.

well peel n' seal doesn't have tar in it, but does have a dark adhesive with a shiny exterior. i've never smelled anything in my car on any day, hot or not. and it works just as well as dynomat.....i guess sans the smell. even better reason to try it out.

I'm installing them now.. so I don't have pics of them installed.. but I'm going to be lining the trunk with the same brushed aluminum that the amp is covered with.. it's still in the organizing, final design and build phases.. the boxes are built, the car is stripped, and I'm working on mounting the boxes, setting up the amp racks and porting through the rear deck lid to get the sound out into the cab..

the little one is an eight inch.. 300watt rms. I'm considering putting it where the stock 9 inch is.. I'll look at apace after I make a new rear deck lid.. it was going to go in for Sound Quality... I would disconnect and possibly remove during SPL competitions

Thanks for the info and can't wait til you share with us all in your experience with your system. I was thinking of using my rear deck to get all some of the base out to help out with the trunk rattles.

Does anyone know how much it would cost just to buy the dynomat the trunk. What is the price comparison with the brown bread product. Does anyone have any pics of how it looks like?? Plus how much weight will be added to your car with all this dynomat or brown bread??? I am sure most of you if you have a TL or 3.2TL must come across this problem with your trunk rattling to death. So no real solution but just to dynomat the whole trunk eh!!!
