H/O alternator advise
H/O alternator advise
I'm looking for help finding a alternator to properly supply needed power for my sub amp.right now my sub amp is 1600w rms and pulls 140amps.my alt now puts out 105amps.Also I have underdriven pulleys witch they say take 10-15%away from the alt.so I think my amp is only seeing about 85-90amps.before the pulleys my set pounded hard but I thought I could've used a bigger alt then. Now anymore than half volume, the whole car draining bad.and the amp just dont sound as good anymore. I have big 3 with 0gauge all the way to the amp.1600w hifonics brutus and 4 pioneer dual 2 ohm 12's.seald in min. cft encosures.Oyea I have a 1 farrad cap but I want to toss it. also I'll be putting a 4 channel in that I think draws 60-70amps.thanks
I do have a 2nd battery to install. But I know that with my alt only charging 85-90amps and trying to charge 2 batterys it wont last long. Also I really dont want to add anymore weight to my car since all my stereo stuff and sounddeadening has probally already added 250lbs.I'm looking for a direct drop in solution.and dont want to spend anymore than 300 if possible.
by efficient, you mean the amp would draw less amps to run properly at the same 1600w rms, right? What amp would you reccomend that puts out 1600w rms @1ohm thats more efficent.
While hifonics amps are not known for their efficiency and second batteries are great for installs with this much power, the real problem (as you stated richard) is the alt. Check out Mechman alts (http://www.mechman.com/). They seem to have extreme output, even though they do cost a little more than some competitors. I've worked with them when I picked up my D5100R Powermaster batt, and Matt (ext. 7 if you call) is great to work with. They may be more expensive, but they put out more amps at idle than almost any other brand (from what I've heard). I'll be going with one of their ~160-180A units this summer...
I've also heard mixed things about Excessive Amperage and Ohio Generators.

Sundown SAZ-1500d. It's does 1500+change at 12v so if you can get your voltage up to around 14 or so, you should be well above the 1600w you're looking for... I'm planning on buying their SAZ-2000d when it comes out in June...
