Got my first system!
So today, I bought..
(1) used JL 12w6v2 with grill
(1) used 500/1 Slash
JL cables and fuses
All of them for $400 and I'm getting them installed tomorrow.
The guy that sold me the sub is the manager at Car Toys and he said I will need RCA cables and Hi-Low converter since I want to keep the stock HU.
I originally planned to spend about $400 installed, but after some research, I decided to go with JL subs and amp.
I will post the pix once I get them installed!
oh yea, and I have couple questions.
how much should I expect for the installation + RCA & hi-low converter?
and what kind of box do I need? Ported or sealed? I want clean bass, no farts, no rattles. and how much for the box?

1. RCA's are anywhere from $15 to $50, depending on brand, and length. As for the hi-low converter, a buddy of mine had one put into his jetta, and I'm pretty sure it cost like $70 or so.
2. As for the box type, it's pretty much personal choice... Some people will tell you ported, some sealed. I don't have any experience with that sub, so I can't comment on it, but I personally like sealed boxes. A box can run you anywhere from $30 (about what I paid for mine) if you build a simple square box, or up to around $300-400 if you get and uncald4 box that is custom tailored to your sub and car... Your choice...
Good pick up, by the way. I know that 500.1 normally goes for north of $500....

So I installed my system last night and had some questions.
I'm using LOC to run my stock HU and now the the sound definately quieter than before. It used to be pretty loud at "15" but now, i need to turn it up to about "22" to get the same sound. Is this normal after you install amp/sub?

This could be expected just because you're using part of the signal going to your speakers to send signal to your sub. If you had an aftermarket head unit, and used RCA's straight from there to send signal to the sub, you wouldn't have to turn it up as much...

yea, I got a sealed box. it's roughly 1.25 cu inch, which is the best box for it according to JL audio technical director, http://www.caraudiomag.com/testrepor...fer/index.html
here are some pix
Grill has some scratches on it, but that's the point of it so.. didn't feel like spending $30 for a new one.
btw, i'm lovin' it

don't care what crutchfield says, read the link I put in there.
and no, i didn't upgrade anything else. it sounds absolutely gorgeous even with stock HU and speakers. bass is deep and clean and you still hear the song well with stock speakers.

I have a quick question. Is it normal for sub amp to turn off when the music isn't loud enough? When I have audio on with low volume, my amp just shuts off and when i turn it up, it takes about 5 sec to work again. Is this normal?

The 500/1 has signal sensing. This means that the amp does not need a remote turn on run into it. It turns on when it see's a signal from the RCA input. If it see's no signal then it shuts down.
You have a signal sensing switch on the side of the amp. Shut it off if you have a remote turn on run.
