Good TV? 62" DLP

I am thinking about getting this 62" DLP TV

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1110265592063

I have been steered away from plasma because I was told by many people of the increase risk of screen burn in. I play my XBOX a lot so a plasma would not be a very good idea.

The guy at best buy told me that DLP is slightly better than LCD, but best buy's website seems to say the opposite.

I am kind of confused right now. before I spend $3,000 to $4,000 on a TV I want to be sure that I am getting the best one for my needs (console gaming, movies). Wall mounting is not important.

Is the TV above one of the best I can get in my target price range? (I don't want to go over $4000) and which is better DLP or LCD?

thanks.

Check out the new Sony SXRDs. They are full HD LCD projection sets that run about $3500 for a 50" to $4500 for a 60".

LCD > DLP.

DLP's current technology has lights that need to be replaced, and Samsung has just developed a DLP using LCD light source because it lasts that much longer.

I wouldn't worry too much about plasma burn-in because that issue is no longer that existent.

Don't worry about burn in...especially with a DLP.

I got a Panasonic 50" HD LCD projection back in the Summer and love it.

I strayed away from DLP as the technology hasn't been perfected. I heard that from numerous sources. LCD's been around long enough to have the bugs all worked out. I paid $2,500 for mine - including the stand.

In the long run, you'll get more out of an LCD than you will a plasma - when the LCD bulb burns out, put a new one in and it's like a brand new TV. I just think it's a better return on your investment.

by the way... they dont make flat panel lcd's right now as big as 62"

as a matter of fact a buddy of mine HAS THAT EXACT SAME TV....
he loves it.. all of my friends go to his house to watch movies and play madden 06 on it!
of course wiht a tv that size normal channels look a little funny.. but that is with any of these news tvs... but the HD channels, boy are they amazing...
and im sure the xbox will look amazing on it too...
As long as you have the room for the tv (because it is HUGE) and room to sit far enough away from it (again, because its HUGE), i say go for it.
my buddy has had it for a couple months already and he has no problems at all with it...

by the way.. its also on sale for like $2900

Trust me I know a ton about TV's

I would get the sony LCD rear projection TV that fits into your budget. They are by far the best TV and DLP technology cannot touch them.

the 60inch A20 would be perfect for what you want...if you want to spend more, you can bump it up to the 60inch SXRD sony which is in a league of its own.

In the next 6 months I myself will be in the same boat as you.....Wanting the best TV for the money I am going to spend. And after countless hours of research the SONY brand is the way to go.

I would try to find a 1080p res. It will be the future in H/D output. Currently the standard is 720p and 1080i. The choice is yours. Everyone has there own opinion. It's a matter of how you view the quality of a paticular set. Also, would look for a set that has more than 1 HDMI input.

You dont need 1080P right now

dont buy into the hype....

reasons

1. 1080P wont be broadcast for a long time....networks are just getting to 720 and 1080i...what makes you think they are going to go all the way to 1080p right away....

2. most of the 1080P TVs dont really display the 1080P because of the inputs not accepting it.

3. A true 1080P TV will cost you over $5000 and you wont even be able to use it for at least 3-4-5 years....

Basically just get a 1080I set that is amazing and it will be fine for the next 8-10 years...

by then Technology will be so insane that you will want a new TV anyways!
