how much does the eclipse run?

I'm pretty happy with my D9, but with Navi that would cost a shit load

I am also really really considering the N1. There is not a single thing that that unit cannot do. I am only concerned with rattling from the metra kit and whether or not it will look good with the 03 CLs titanium trim. I am really kicking myself for not getting the stock navi but this is supposedly ten times better with optional voice controls.

also I am worried about the ability to play dvds while in drive. Someone told me that the safety feature on the N1 makes it cut out if the GPS detects movement. Is this true or is it simply a matter of wiring the ground to the parking break?

I would not recommend the Pioneer AVIC-N1 for the Nav reasons... The vendor of our audio section at work sells that unit and the Eclipse, and says the eclipse is much better unit and waaaayyy easier to use. He said with the AVIC-N1, you will have to load the Nav disc everytime to input or change routes as the Eclipse the are two slots-- one for nav and one for regular cd. Im definately going for the Eclipse this spring! These of course are just my opinions and words from a representative that sells these products to our company that i work for. I havent tried either one of them but from everything i hear about the Eclipse and the company i would go with them.

How often are you going to put in an address in the navigation? everywhere you go? or just on trips you make....

From what the rep tells me and if i remember correctly, Anytime you change anything in the Nav options you will have to load the Nav cd in the slot. This means taking any music cd you have in their, loading the nav cd, changing route--planning the route--etc etc, then taking out the nav cd, then loading back your regular music cd to listen to again. Plus he told me that the new in-dash dvd systems such as this pioneer has to connect to your vehichles speed sensors for two reasons, ONE--- to keep track of where the car is on the navi map, you have to remember that this system does not use GPS, but is rather based on DVD ROM. (Not sure if that is true, im kinda tired and cant remember every word the rep was telling me.) The SECOND reason the AVIC-N1 unit has to plug into your speedsensor is deter people from simple by-passing of the e-brake mod to watch DVD's. A lot of manufactures are getting a lot of crap and law suits for making it so easy to by-pass. They have the in-dash dvd systems hook up to speed sensors so if the vehichle is moving at all the dvd will not play movies. Im sure there is way around it, but A LOT harder and may even require opening the unit up and re-soldering or very expensive by-pass modules. Like i said im tired and im prolly rambling, but i know MOST of what i just stated in my post are accurate.

PS. This rep is the co-owner of Car Spa ---- a audio/electronic company that does only dealer installs, and are well known with working installs on Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, Masarati....etc...etc.

I will check with the rep tomorrow about being able to by-pass the video watching capabilities, and i might be wrong about the whole GPS thing that i explained but he did say it was a lot more complicated then the Ecplise unit.

I talked to a sales rep @ hifibuys awhile back before I ordered it. He said the DVD just has the maps on it....and it is GPS based.....

what you do is pop the navi dvd in the avic and out the location you are going than it savees it to its 15GB harddrive than pop out the DVD and it has a 10 miles clearance all around the roads which you travel incase you get off course... after it saves it to the hard drive you can pop in a music CD or a CD-R and it can be copied to the CD and you can save it for next time and jst pop in the CD-R instead of the whole DVD...

I Pioneer has more features than the eclipse like the rear view camera, Xm radio, and voice command...all depends on what you are looking for....

- MORE FEATURES (less price)
- or the Eclipse...

I'm not saying not to get the eclipse it just depends what you like...

the eclipse is double din that means no metra kit

the pioneer is single din that means you need1 and you may have a open hole space in the dash which i'm going to try to custom fit a 6CD changer into it... maybe a DVD/CD changer, which will allow me to use the navi DVD in one of the slots and us the rest for DVDs/CDs

That's prolly what I heard....either unit is a great choice....If i wasnt already getting the Eclipse, second would be the pioneer. ALso I did talk to the rep today and he said the best to his knowledge you will probably not be able to bypass the DVD player block by simply bypassing the e-brake mod. He says it connects to your speedometer so that if your vehichle moves it wont play dvd's.

you may be able to get away without hooking the speed sense up and just using the antenna, may work but i can't promise you, i know you can do it with the pioneer

Dustin, you can get the Metra Dash Kit at the Good Guys off El Toro, as hard as this piece is to find, for some reason they have a few in stock.

Did you buy the metra kit and harness or is this something the installer provides for you? And if you had to buy the Harness and Metra kit, where did you purchase it ?
