General Store Update

So, this isn't about an Acura per se, but I've had some inquires about what's going on at the store.

First off, we are almost out of our backorder situation - many thanks for your patience! If you have a TSX or CL-S speaker upgrade kit, or a subwoofer box, on order, we expect to get our last shipment out Monday or Tuesday.

If you have been waiting for a mid/high component set that has been backordered, those should ship out on Wednesday (should arrive Tuesday).

We do have one sub box ordered for a 12" that will take longer because the woofer is in transit. Probably late in the week.

In future we have decided not to take pre-orders, but to sell from inventory only (pre-make sub boxes, pre-assemble kits) to avoid any delays. We also have built a production mold for fiberglass subwoofer boxes and will be able to cut the delivery time for these down substantially (either off of the shelf or about 1 week!)

Yesterday after Justin finished another 10" sub enclosure, we finished hooking up a small high-end demo board. We used Dynaudio MW160 midbass and MD110 tweeter drivers, a DLS A1 30W x 2 amp, and a Denon DCT-Z1 CD player.

The midwoofers are like at knee level, the tweeters about 12" higher than that (no cheating for us!) We did not use the Dyne passive xovers, we designed a similar set on XoverPro but made them with Solen capacitors and Alpha-Core foil inductors. Wired the whole thing with IXOS wire and cable.

Now, usually when we put speakers in, we think, well, they gotta break in - give them time. With this set, it was like, day-am! This is the best sounding demo board I've ever heard. Bar none. Detail and immediacy was very impressive - string noise and background detail was surprising even on discs I've heard before. Bass response was pretty amazing - not boomy, but very accurate and tight. On the one hand, it's a unit and 2 and an amp - but on the other hand, it's around $4K of unit, two, and amp.

I will post some pics tomorrow - after we get the backorders out!

It was more a question of what we were willing to dedicate to the board from an inventory perspective. I was surprised that they did so well, especially full range.

Nice, do I see that right? The install bay is a part of the store.

One car at a time, right in front.

We'd like more room - but it's nice to have it open like that.

The fab shop is where the mess gets made, and it's separate.

We'd prefer more room, bt to be in the part of town we think we want to be in, we had to make sacrifices at first...

Right now we have a 2005 BMW X5 4.8 with the "pseudo"-DSP OEM system - nav, changer, and dealer-installed Sirius. It sounds awful.

It has a digital data bus system with a fixed analog two-channel audio out to the amp, and fader/balance/etc handled inside the amp.

We are installing Soundgate LOC's to sum the F midrange, midbass, and tweeter signals. Then we are running that through a dual-amp balancer to get fade (the OEM R door channels have a hole in the mids and nothing above 5K!). We are also getting the sub-bass this way.

Then we have three Genesis Profile series amps - like 1-3/8" tall, with fan cooling. Two 75x2 for the F and R and one 350x1 sub amp.

We are installing Dynaudio 160 midbass and 110 tweeters in all four doors. (I know, I hate rear speakers - but he was getting the best we carry F and R, so I really couldn't argue with his budget being screwed up, could I?)

A DLS 10 is getting fiberglassed into the R corner where the two OEM 6" "subs" were.

Th only thing you'll be able to see will be the grille over the sub (I plan on using a Dyne grille for looks, but w/o the badge).

He'll have a sub knob and a fader knob (the OEM fader won't work since we are not using the OEM R output). This thing should be sweet. I'll post pics when we're done (we are taking them all the way along...)
