Front Door Speakers Install?
How hard is it to install speakers in the front door panel. I just bought some MB Quarts and I need to know if I should take the panel off to replace the speakers? BTW I have a 97 3.2 TL.

I know that on most cars you have to take off the door pannel...but i have also seen cars that you don't have to. But, you probably will have to remove it due to cables and securing it into the spot. Keep us posted on your installing. Post pics!`

I changed everything but the Bose headunit in my TL. You'll have to make adapters for your new spkrs to sit in - unless they happen to fit in the plastic Bose adapters. The stock spkrs are 6" diameter and have a depth of 2.5". The adapters are 1" thick leaving you with 1.5" of the spkr inside the door panel. Keep that in mind when you mount your new ones or they'll hit the window when it rolls down. Here's the topic from my speaker install with some pics:

Hey I just installed Boston Pro 6.4's in the front doors of my '98 TL. I had to modify the plastic baskets that the stock speakers fit to hold my bostons. I used a soldering gun with a molding tip. had to cut out the basket and make a cut to use all the same mounting holes. Just take your time and becareful pulling off the panel. They are held on my the good old panel clips.

Well, I got them in. But don't let me go with out saying that it wasn't a challenge. The front door speakers have some type of braket in the back that screws in to keep the speaker taut. What I did was:
-Made a bushing to push the braket back because the MB's are really deep. By making a ruber bushing to fit in between the braket and the door panel, it made a perfect fit for the speakers.
-I then took the little MB Quart Decal that comes with the speakers and put it on the outside of the stock grill. It make it look really custom. Almost as if Acura came out with a stock MB Quart sound system.
The rear speakers 6x9's were a little more trouble than I had first anticpated. I couldn't figure out how to take off the grills. So I took the entire rear seats off. (Some cars need the rear seats taken out because the rear panel is connected behind the seat) So after all of this I found out that you can gain access to the screws from inside the trunk. They are hidden, very, very well. Believe me. It took me a while to locate them. So after all this I got the speakers out and put in the MB's. I absolutley love them. I'll try to post pics if any one wants to see what the MB decals look like on the stock grills. Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to warn everyone on how to replace the front and rears with out spending an extra 3 hours like I did.
