Front door: components or separate tweets and midbass ???
I recently took delivery of our much belowed car, and I want to replace the speakers. I assume the stock setup includes a crossover so that only highs go to the tweets, and lows to the 6.5".
So technically I could just buy separate tweets and midbasses and install them without having to buy the whole system including the crossover ?
Anyone want to comment on this, as to if this is correct or not.
I'm also interested in what speakers people have chosen to replace the factors ones with - Alpine - Polk - what ?, and which model ?

I think you've got it right.
There are several threads about replacing with Alpine Type S speakers (170S doors, 690S rear deck). Polks have also been mentioned. For the doors either the Alpine S or Polks require spacers (but no cutting). Infinity 6002is is a very shallow speaker (1-7/8" deep) which may not require a spacer but haven't found anyone who used these in their TSX. Seen several posts where someone used Alpine Type R speakers but they require cutting and are less efficient so you'll probably require an amp.
A few months ago I was going to replace my door and rear deck speakers with Alpine Type S. I've gotten lazy and haven't done it yet and I think I've grown accustomed to the way the sound system sounds. Its actually pretty good for a stock system. Anyway, hope this helps. If you do decide to make the swap then let us know what you chose, how the swap went, and what you think of the difference/results.
Good Luck.

Yeah I agree with you on the sound of the stock setup. Its great for a stock stereo, and though I've done all my installations myself until now, it would break my heart to start taking apart this beautiful machine before I even make the first payment.
(Maybe I can pay someone else to do it, so I dont have to watch)

The door speaker replacement seem like a b!t@h. You have to pull the door panel off. You may want to replace the rear deck 6x9 first and see if you like the results. Don't forget that the rear decks only get lower freq. so if you install 3-way or 4-way speakers anything other than the main woofer cone will be useless.
honestly, different speakers have different crossover points. so if you are getting new speakers its better to get some xovers, other wise they prolly wont sound good. if you really want to "upgrade" your system than get some custom passive xovers made for your components or go with an active xover setup. Ive heard systems with some of the best equipment but not properly setup and it doesnt sound good. unless you are willing to take the time to properly setup and tune your system i dont think its worthwhile to upgrade, tuning is the most important aspect to get your speakers to sound good. You could buy a component set that includes a set of xovers, but again it isnt optimal as those xover points are assumptions. Speakers sound different in different cars.
if you want more bass just get a sub and amp and call it a day, much easier and less hassle. a true SQ system takes mucho effort.

I dont agree, I think even changing out factors speakers which are made of paper, and replacing them with standard polypropylene or some other component system will make a difference. At least it has in my past cars.
These are what I'm considering buying :
Front doors-
Polk Audio db6500 6-1/2" Component System
$199.99
Rear Doors-
Polk Audio db 650 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers
$99.99
I'm leaving the 6x9s alone for now, and adding my JL sub and Alpine amp from my Jeep (my wife wont miss them).
This should sound pretty good, and I wont loose steering wheel control of my system.

Everyone who has swapped out their door and rear deck speakers, including me, has been amazed by the improvement. I went with Alpines, but other people like Polk, etc. Not many people have upgraded their tweeters. The stock tweeter is in a hard-to-get-at place, and the grill is permanently attached to the tweeter. So I don't see how you can get it to look "stock" when you're done.

I changed out the door speakers in mine (finally) with the Polk EX365s 2-ways. My main goal was to clean up the sound a mid to high volumes. Well, it did that in spades. Now I almost have the problem of too much bass resonating in the doors. But you know, that's a good problem.
On a side note, volume levels were unaffected.
Overall I am very happy with the swap. It did wonders to the quality of sound. Obviously it's nowhere near a full factory replacement, but I'm not interested in that quality of sound since it's a car anyway (I'll save that for my home system).
