Front component speakers poll

Here are the three I'm considering:

Alpine SPS-171A
JL Audio VR690CXi
Image Dynamics CTX65CS

They're all about the same price at woofersetc.com. I'm sort of new to car audio speakers. My sub is an Image Dynamics 10" and am looking to upgrade the front components. Among those three, which do you think?

I haven't heard any of them personally, but I'd be tempted by the image dynamics.

I'd first go with some new rainbows, though. (and i did for my new car.)

So... the Alpine and ID 6 1/2" speaks. Or... JL Audio 6x9's?

Are you running an amp? What type of music do you listen to? Do you plan to use Dynamat? What year is your Bronco?

Have you has the chance to listen to each set? I know that its hard to find a retail shop that sells the IDs, but you can probably find a place to listen to the Alpines and the JLs.

I've found that everyone's ear is different, so its best to hear what you plan to buy. You may know right away which one you think sounds best to you.

Good Luck.

I ended up going with Alpine SPX 17REFs. I went to my local shop and auditioned the JLs, Bostons, Infinitys, and the Alpines and I liked the Alpines the best -- the highs are smoother and less shrill to my ears than almost anything else. Too bad there's no place to audition the IDs -- I like their products -- but you guys are right. There are too many differences between peoples' opinions of what sounds "good" to buy speakers without hearing them.

The JLs and Bostons were just too bright, and the sound stage and clarity of the Alpines is better than any others I listened to -- even some that were quite a bit more expensive. I liked the Alpines better than the $800 Bostons...

Thanks for your help, guys!

I did Dynamat the door and I am running a JL Audio 300/4 to the Alpine speakers -- they're rated at 75w and that's what the JL puts out. I love the sound, except for the hiss I have that I haven't solved yet. Thought it was amp grounding, but they're both solidly grounded. Fortunately the hiss doesn't respond to head unit volume so I disappears with any substantial volume.

Wow, the search feature really sucks. I found this by accident on google. Just installed the ID CTX 6.5" components and absolutely love them. I was happy with the stock to Infinity upgrade and just as happy from Infinity to the IDs. These things are so much better than the Infinities in so many ways.

I see after repositioning your sub box you've found a new love for your audio system.

I have Infinity Kappa Perfects...and I absolutely hate them!

Way too bright and metallic for my ears.

Would not recommend them if you are sensitive to highs.

It's fun again. With the new positioning I've found that one W6 is more than enough. I might have to chop my box in half.

Since I'm relatively new to this, I've been experimenting with tweeter placement. In the dash, I get the best sound with them tilted to the rear of the car and outward toward the windows. Only problem is I definately want to keep it stock appearing in the area the car gets parked in.

for the money spent on perfects, the quality difference from the Kappa's are not noticeable, IMO I got the kappas, and they are nice...

I would only recommend the Infinities with the stock amp. Now that mine are out of there, I realize how I would brace myself for some of the high notes of certain music. The new speakers for just a few more bucks actually have more detail and don't kill your ears on high notes.
