FOCALS > Diamond Audio
If you got the money, go for it. I would suggest 6.5" front and rear. Lot's of high quality amps out there to run the Focals, but my personal preference is the Helix Precision HXA500Q. It's a 5 channel with a small footprint. Check out THIS THREAD for pics of it in my trunk. You can also run the sub off it. Puts out way more power than it's rated for.

broly,
which focals are you talking about? Some might be too deep to fit. Or you can try the slim polyglass speakers, i believe they are the 165v2 for 6.5". But there kinda expensive if you don't buy them online.

good luck finding a drop in replacement from focal or diamond audio... you are going to have to do some modifing or at least will need a spacer... personally i like diamond audio over focal due to the fact that the diamonds have a stronger midbass response..

i think you should go with Focals Utopia 180W up front and Polyglass 160CV for the back.
those might require some modifications tho..
In their Access line, Focal has some slim speakers like the 165V so it will probably fit better. but you should really check the specifications for each speakers.
Focal make some kick-ass speakers, i heard them and they are awesome!
get a nice strong amplifier to go with them and you wont be disappointed!

My 2 cents
.... we're comparing two completely different types of speakers here. Focal's are an amazing speaker, yes, especially the Utopia's you are referring to. However, if you are going to spend the money on them, you'll want to put them in a kick panel or have the midrange SEALED in the door.
The Diamond HEX, on the other hand, are specifically engineered for an infinite baffle design and will sound 100 times better than the Focals in the FACTORY locations. Trust me, we've done enough of this car, with both these speakers and have much better results with Diamond.
For the record, I am both a Diamond and Focal dealer, so it's not like I'm biased because I only carry one of them. Just remember, I am referring to performance using the factory locations

I have Focal Polykevlar 165K2's in my stock location unsealed and they sound great...I'd be curious to hear what they sound like sealed...and what the Diamonds sound like unsealed. A spacer was required but no cutting.

i see, that's kinda what i was thinking, but then it seemed like it wouldn't be able to fit...
anyone know how to go about doing this? or have pics or something of someone who did??
i'm assuming it requires heavy modding and cutting and spacing to fit into the door...i actually have some utopias i plan on throwing on sometime soon, and definately don't want potential going to waste.

to chime in this thread. I am lookking for the exact thing this broly guy is. I was wondering what could be put in the stock subwoofer box and should I double the hex s600s then at 6.5?

Since I'm a Dyne dealer, I'm going to take my crack at brian's question (Hope Ron still chimes in):
Off-axis response is a function of the size of the piston and the frequency being played... so a 6" cone off-axis response rolls off more the higher you go. This is often called "beaming", like a flashlight beam.
Dynaudio uses heavy cones that have a poor HF response anyway, but mostly because they know that their tweeters play low. At 2500 Hz, the tweeters with their much smaller diaphragm, have a better off-axis response than the mid.
So their off-axis, door-panel mounted response is largely a function of their using tweeters with an ability to play low. They still work well in kick panel installs, but the difference is not as great.
Focals cross the tweeter over like an octave higher, so the upper midrange of the system is dependent upon the HF response of the mid-woofer cone. Hence they sound very different on axis than off axis.
They are both very different speakers but are both very high quality.
BTW, I test fit a couple of Dynes into the F door of a TSX the other day. I found that the Dyne MW130 does NOT fit without cuttong. However, the Dyne MW160GT will fit... so I think it would go into the TL as well. Uses a powder-coated stamped frame rather than a cast frame.

thank you for this piece of information. I happen to drive an Acura CL Type S so i was wondering if you knew it would fit the System 240GT setup that Dynaudio has... being that the 240GT is the only two-way system that uses the 160GT driver.

I have suggested a Vifa 8" before, still thinking it's a good choice.

More re OEM sub... a small infinite-baffle sub can't play rp-hip-hop bass loud. It will flap and fart.
Best results would be obtained by using a "subsonic" high-pass filter at like 450 Hz... AudioControl devices with PFM can do this with a 40Hz "chip". The Alpine 450 amp has one built in, as do many DLS amps.
Running it all the way down to 20 Hz would be OK IMO only with classic-rock, or jazz/blues music. Even classical could mess with it...

I see, Well I don't want farting so to speak and tearing out the Sub would be a terrible thing to do unless I plan to put a non existant 9" speaker there. If the 8w7 wasn't made for baffle? Then what baffle is suggested, price is no option

the W7, as with jsut about all aftermaket subs are made to go in a box, either sealed or ported, in the trunk.
If i were you, i would get rid of the stock sub and put an aftermarket one in the trunk.
