Arrow Focal Utopia 165w, PLEASE HELP!!!

Hey there,

I have a 03 TL-S, and I'm planning to buy Focal Utopia 165W.

If you have these installed in a similar car (year/make/brand) and are willing to answer a few questions I have, here I go:

1) What are you powering these with? Do you have 1 set or 2 (f/b?)? I heard that the Focals require a LOT of power, I was referred to use over 200w/channel when driving these because if you go lower (ie: 75w-100w/ch, your tweeters will need tweaking [-3dB] at the crossover, etc). What is your intake on all this?

2) How much did you pay for them approximately? 1set/2sets?

3) How was fitment on your car? Did you have to do anything particular to make them fit? Does it rattle now? Feedback on your install, etc

That's about it for now, thanks for your time, and I hope you get a chance to answer these questions for me. I would greatly appreciate it.

PS: this was directly targetted for Crazy_Sellout, but unfortunately he/she does not accept PM's, I'm sure there are other members on this forum with this install, and would not mind giving me their intake on the whole setup. Thanks.

I have a front set powered by Phoenix Gold Titanium 500.4. (rear speakers focal audio 6M)

The installer made a spacer so they would fit.

I paid 475 shipped (i bought them from crazy_sellout actually)

We are a Focal distributor for a while now so we know the product pretty well - the Mid itself will be a little more than just popping it in the door - you'll have to section the metal of the door and bend back to make the factory opening bigger and use a 3/4" spacer to the magnet doesn't interfere with the window - it's the most modding we've done to a TL door for a speaker - it's just big.

I would definitely run at least 150w per channel, AT LEAST - especially if you are only installing them in your factory locations - just be aware that the mid-bass response will be lacking because of the infinite baffle presented by the door location, unless, of course, you are going to build a pocket into the factory opening to seal the mid in. Have you considered building kick panels? Just a suggestion - we've done enough of these to know there are better choices when going to the FACTORY locations for speakers.
