fm modulator

What are you guys using to output sound from an external dvd player for the video/navi conversion? I've heard that the fm modulator doesn't do a good job. What are the alternatives?

Thanks

We were using the sony xa-39 but it has since been discontinued try this replacement Switch when it comes in stock. It is just like the sony switch.

To simplify the sony switch picture this. The switch goes between the headunit and the factory amp/speakers. The switch will switch between the headunit and ANY auxiliary source.

None of the controls from the headunit will work if you are using the auxillary source except the on/off (because of the remote power lead). Therefore, any auxillary input you use has to have a headphone output (ie volume control).

The sound quality is EXCELLENT and it beats the RF modulator hands down.

On the left side of the sony switch are the 2 sets of inputs (headunit and auxillary). The right side has one set of outputs that goes to the factory amp. (each of the above sets has 4 channels right and left front and right and left rear)

I have a toggle switch on the dash that switches the source from auxillary to headunit.

Or you can build one yourself with a 4PDT relay. Costs about 10 bucks from Radio Shack

Any specifics on how to build one? I've never done anything like that before. Maybe you could email me off forum if it's too detailed. Any help would be appreciated. I already have the AVC-RGB1 and DVD player ready to be installed. I am just waiting for a good sound solution.

So this could theoretically take a stereo RCA signal from a sound card and run it to the factory amp as the auxillary input. Good deal.
