Talking Finished Kenwood HU Install!

Sorry mods for the cross-post.

Thanks again to Ron (Streeteffectz) who went above and beyond what I expected for customer service. This is using the Double Din custom Metra kit.

I did have to trim the Metra kit slightly with my Dremel to make things fit. But in the end, it looks totally stock looking!

Here are pics:

The flash saturates the pics BUT I can assure you that the color matches very very closely to stock.

Looks good, open that bad boy up so we can see how the trim of the kit looks around the unit.

Nice job, great "kit" Ron!

Looks like you gotta press a little harder on the AC to close that gap on the top, or is it just the camera flash?

SWEET!!!!! I'll be getting the DDX7015 this Spring sometime for my Maxima. Although it'd be redundant, I don't suppose you'll be getting the KNA-DV4100 Navi?!?!

It's the flash. Although there is a slight gap, it is unnoticeable inside the car. The flash on the camera "magnifies" the gap.

Thanks for the comment guys. I keep looking at just admiring how well it flows with the dash. The the screen is nice and flush, color is perfect and the screen opens perfectly. PERFECT!

What's the mini-plug dropping down from behind the coin tray - input for iPod/mp3 player? Were you able to figure out a solution for the stock sub?

Yes, an ipod/mp3 connector for those who have them and ride in my car (not for me really, but my friends).

I have no stock sub, so I didn't run into that problem. But I heard you TL guys lose the sub.

I want to try to figure out the NAVI VOICE because I would like to still have that feature. Any suggestions on how to fix that?

That's actually a simple fix. If you don't want to go crazy, and just get the voice back, you can tap the voice output off the navi-dvd drive and run it right into an amplified computer speaker than you can get for $10 at any computer store, staples, office max, etc etc.

I have done it into systems where people have aftermarket amps and all where I split the inputs into the amps with relays and retain the mute functions and all

Thanks Ron. Is there a way to actually do this with the stock speakers (like stock)?

Wouldn't want a computer speaker poking out my car interior

Terminal 3 (MUTE) to the HU Mute wire

Now how do I connect Terminal 1, 9, and 10?

You hide it up under the dash - one of those tiny ones - they are small enough to hide, I used them on a motorcycle before, they work well

You could do it through the stock speakers, but you'll need to do the same thing I was saying above - put a relay between the left and right speakers leads - so basically cut the leads between the radio harness and the car harness, put in the relays and have the mute wire from the navi trigger the relays - this way the front two speakers will cut off and pipe in the navi voice.

Yeah, I have that installed and as another member said it works "OK" There is definitely a difference in the way it works, a little of a delay.

Alot of my customers have purchased the DDX7015 and have loved them, however I personally have held out for the DDX8017 which has SRS WOW and SRS Circle Surround Automotive (this link explains) . None the less props on the metra kit and clean looking install.

Did Ron (StreetEffectz) reconstruct/mold the metra kit from scratch or did he just trim it?

We made that particular piece from scratch - we also reconstruct the metra kit by molding the 7015's trim ring right into it - we can do this for any headunit.

I've been searching far and wide for a double din kit like that. Is there a part number from Metra from that kit?
